    Moving a light switch

So I needed to move a light switch higher on the wall. Power came in from below, no slack.

I used the existing box as a connection box, secured each end of the cable with those connections that go in a knock out, wire nutted ends together. Put on blank face plate.

Ran new length to new switch box, wired in and works great.

    Did I miss something?

    Thanks

These are legal now since hurricane Katrina, if you find a need to delete the j box.

Sounds like you nailed it otherwise.

assuming he can do a drywall patch that looks better than a box cover.

Holy crap that is a game changer. Buried splices were always illegal.

    Good to know. Thx.

In wall splices are a blessing and a curse. By the best one you can (I like Wago) and tape the shit out of it. They do fail. For bottom fed wires that need extending and moving, sometime removing the baseboard and trenching the drywall there and then replacing the base can avoid a drywall patch.
