RIP John Havlicek. One of my favorite players

A sad day for Celtic and all B-Ball fans. One of the hardest and grittiest players on the parquet.

Not a fan of the Cs but as a fan of Basketball I loved what I was able to see of his game

    "always find an edge"

and Bill Russell called him “the best all-around player I ever saw.”
When the Greatest of all time says that about you, thats something

Cleared out my storage unit recently and discovered this item that I had not seen, circa 1967(?)
Dad was a coach for Hondo's summer camps in Boston during the same years he was coaching at Northeastern University, and this must have been a gift he forgot about. That is a crisp signature

^^ Value just went up on that

RIP JH, one of the smoothest movers I ever watched on a basketball court. The guy just "got it" and was a pleasure to watch. I saw a game between some of the Celtics and the Globetrotters at a (long since closed) Catskills hotel and got to meet most of the players and get signatures, it was a high point of a little kids life for sure. They all burned in my parents house fire 30 years ago

He was a lot older than that pic back in the day--or maybe the passage of 55 years has changed MY perspective on what old looks like.

How the hell did he get that line in his signature so straight? Did he carry a straightedge around with him in case he needed to sign an autograph?

One of my early years sports heroes. Got to see him in person 2X while we lived in Baltimore. RIP Hondo.
