Looking for a new helmet -- do y'all ride in road or MTB helmets? Like the venting of a roadie but the coverage of a MTB helmet is nice

Roadie, but then I don’t ride anything too risky.

I've bought into the POC concept of their design being superior. I use the Octal for road and gravel. It's big, but stays cool.

I ride gravel and road with mtb helmet. I just remove the visor when not mtb. Looks super roadie that way. :-).

Recent purchase for me. Nice and light, fits as the same as my Smith winter helmet, which made the online purchase easier.

Smith helmets can be reasonably priced. Their sun glasses...not so much.

31 pages later I finally got the Cache built up. Great first ride today, have to tweak some cockpit stuff but great riding bike. First one with discs for me. It rips. Riding with a broken toe and cracked rib so took it easy, but can’t wait to get some more time on it.

The weareone wheels are absolutely gorgeous. Click image for larger version.

Spent the weekend on the Hungry Horse Reservoir camping, boating and picking huckleberries. Got in a nice gravel ride up to Firefighter Lookout on Saturday with some great views of Great Northern. It definitely confirmed one thing - I really don't like riding dusty gravel with a bunch of cars. Maybe I'll get used to it. I DO like riding the forest service dirt/gravel WITHOUT cars. I doubt I'm alone in this.

What happens when 3 mags get together for a bikepacking trip? Adventure ensues!

goniff, biggins, and I decided to ride the northern loop of the Green Mountain Gravel Growler this weekend.

I cycled out of Burlington after dinner on Thursday and made camp along a beautiful brook.

We made our way up the Stowe valley on plenty of dirt and some sweet single track through Adam’s Camp.

We had dinner at Lost Nation in Mo’ville.

It seemed the kitchen was backed up and we got out just before the sun set. it was another 8 miles of gravel in the dark before we found our next campsite.

But the call of the loons lulled us to sleep and we were able to get a bath in the morning.

Luckily our campground host made and exception to allow us to stay at his closed site and even left out some dry firewood. It was great to have a reserved campsite that night as we were all too spent to think straight.

The next morning the elevation gain eased and we had a nice ride into Montpelier.

It was a quick ride along the river to get back to Waterbury where we said goodbye to biggins. goniff and I grabbed a beer and bite before splitting.

It ended up being just over 170 miles and 13k in climbing for the weekend.

What a great time - lots of sweat, plenty of laughs, and a promise to do the southern loop next time.

Thanks to goniff for sharing pics.

That looks amazing guys! I would love to do that loop. Maybe this fall could knock out the southern half.

I thought of you on Friday (too late of course), thinking you would have loved this romp. Next time for sure. Though you and Peruvian would be a scary combo to try to keep up with. Goniff and I outnumbered Peruvian 2 newbies to 1 old salt, so he had to patient with us

    Edit: sick new rig btw.

    Excellent TR! Thanks for sharing.

My buddy and I are making plans to hit part of it the gravel growler. His bro lives right on the route. No timing yet. No firm route plans yet. I gotta get that shit nailed down.

Wow, the Cache looks amazing Cantdog!

Strong strong work by everyone with the TRs! My gravel bike has been neglected big time the last couple weeks as the MTB is just too good right now.

Same here, once our lockdown travel restrictions eased I've barely touched the drop bars. I mixed it up over the weekend and did a 3 day/300 mile route from the house, up into the highlands and back. Lots of good off- road but with quite a bit of tarmac too - more than I would have liked but it was needed to tie some areas together. A little boggy hike-a-bike was in there too, just to keep things from being too boring. Back to the MTB now.

It’s time for a new saddle bag as the $7 dry bag I had been using is dead.

Obvious choices include Revelate, Apidura, Ortleib, etc.

biggins liked the REI bag he brought and I love the budget price.

Are there any other sub-$100 bags out there folks are pleased with?

I have been eyeing the bag combos at framedbikes.com. You can get a combo handlebar/seat bag for about $60. Just a few reviews on their site, so not sure about quality, but from what I have read, Framed's warranty and customer service is really good, so if there are issues, you could probably get them handled.
