The restitution to Aspen is the amount of Aspen's deductible ($250k). It's in the article. Aspen isn't double dipping here, although that happens a lot.
Here's how it works in basically every prosecutor's office in America. Some legal assistant opens the case and reads who the police listed as the "victim." Then the legal assistant sends the victim a Victim Impact Statement to fill in where the victim can say how much their loss is. Then, as part of the plea, the defendant must agree to pay the restitution listed in the victim impact statement. Aspen Co. presumably only put down their loss (their deductible) and not the entire loss. It is not illegal for the court to order the full restitution in a case like this, but just saying, it normally isn't the case.

11-10-2021, 03:52 PM #230as “a result of the Defendants’ actions, (Skico), and thus National Union, suffered a loss in the principal amount of $5,212,484.”
National Union’s lawsuit consists of counts of conversion, civil conspiracy and unjust enrichment against both Johnsons, and separate counts of fraud and breach of fiduciary duty fraud against Derek Johnson.
“Pursuant to the Policy, National Union indemnified Crown and Aspen for the losses that they sustained as a result of the theft by the Defendants,” the suit said.
As a result, National Union is “subrogated to Crown and Aspen,” the suit argued.
“Subrogation is a well-known principle of insurance law. It allows an insurer who has paid a loss to its policyholder to ‘step into the shoes’ of the policyholder and attempt to recover its payment from a tortfeasor who caused or contributed to the loss,”
I wasn't, I was totally at fault, but my insurance did trying to prove SkiCo was somehow at fault for my injuries they had to cover.

That day is today. Hide your daughters ebay accounts, he's back.
6yrs prison sentence = 14 months in, 10 months halfway house, casual stroll into the newspaper office for an interview.

Pure narcissist. He thinks people care.
Did he own a home in Aspen? Is that why he's back? How did he not lose it, if he still owes restitution? And, if not, why, of all places, just in financial terms, is he back there? Maybe something else he should talk about with his therapist.

Reposting for the thread bump:
He did it..
One ski at a time!
And it didn’t cost him a dime
He kept those fuckin ebay prices down
Well, I left New England back in eighty nine
An' went to Aspen workin' on a rental line
The first year they had me puttin' boots on stinky feet
Every day I'd watch them bunnies roll by
And sometimes I'd hang my head and cry
'Cause I always wanted me one that was skanky and sweet
One day I devised myself a plan
That should be the envy of most any man
I'd sneak skis out of there and flip em on the old e bay
Now gettin' caught meant gettin' fired
But I figured I'd have a stack of cash by the time I retired
I'd have me a gripload of at least a hundred grand.
I'd get it one ski at a time
And it wouldn't cost me a dime
I’d keep those fuckin ebay prices down
I'm gonna boat around in style
I'm gonna drive everybody wild
Cause I’ll be the richest ski shop rat around.
So the very next day when I punched in
With some tape and boxes and with help from my friends
I left that day with enough for a couple skiers
I've never considered myself a thief
But Aspen wouldn't miss just a couple a skis
Especially if I strung it out over several years.
The first day I got me some Salomon clamps
And the next day I got me a pair of Ramps
Then I got me a pair of Fischers and some Devastators
Ordered things I needed like tape and a box
And bindings an brakes an' they arrived at the shop
But the big stuff we snuck out in my Lincoln Navigator
Now, up to now my plan went all right
'Til some accountants came to the shop one night
And that's when they noticed that something was definitely wrong.
The count said we had fifty three
But we were supposed to have seventy three
And when we tried to call the shop girls all them hoes were gone.
So we worked it out so we wouldn’t get caught
Took a pile of cash but we paid em off
That operation was runnin' just like a song
Corporate oversight was another sight
We had two on the left and one on the right
But when we pulled out the coke all three of 'em didn’t see shit
The back end looked kinda funny too
But we cooked those books and when we got through
Well, that's when we noticed our ebay site had a million hits
About that time my wife walked out
And I could see in her eyes that she had her doubts
But she opened the door and said "Honey, let’s buy a boat"
So we drove to the lake for a little cruise
But we got lit up with the red-and-blues
I could hear everybody laughin' for blocks around
But up there at the court house they didn't laugh
'Cause to type it up it took the whole staff
And when they got through the charges weighed sixty pounds.
I did it one ski at a time
And it didn’t cost me a dime
I kept those fuckin ebay prices down
Gonna spend 2 years in jail
Then try ‘er again at Vail
I’ll be richest ski-shop rat around
Ugh! Yeah, RED RYDER
This is the COTTON MOUTH
With some janky ass rental skis for sale Come on
Huh, This is the COTTON MOUTH
And negatory on the cost of this biz-ness there RED RYDER
You might say I went right up to the skico
And picked it up, it's cheaper that way

I thought they owned a place in Burlingame (deed-restricted employee housing), but not sure how that works out with restitution. There were kids, school age if I remember. Presumably the wife stayed there parenting while he was in the pokey.
No such thing as bad attention for dj; he doesn't want to be anonymous or start over clean, someplace else. To the extent that his first stop was the paper. To your point, narcissist.north bound horse.

Their deed restricted employee housing unit is on Juan St, a 3bd/2ba about one football field away from the bottom terminal of lift 1A. They still own it according to the Pitco Assessor, probably one of the best units in the entire APCHA inventory. There was a sale a few steps away from their place that went for $20MM a couple weeks ago.
