I was reading this morning about municipalities not complaining about getting caught up in credit default swaps, because, like in most scams, nobody wants to admit publicly that they were taken for a chump in such a big way, just want to make it go away and fade into history. This guy is asking for it by returning to the scene of the crime and smiling like that. Not that they can do much, double jeopardy and all.

Remember when DeLorean was supposedly in financial trouble and he showed up to ski at Aspen? Vail?, and somebody saw him and said, hey, what the fuck, I helped you out with a contribution to your legal fund when you were crying poverty, and now you're living first class again? He supposedly whipped out a checkbook and gave that guy's money back.

Many of the retail managers under the D&E umbrella missed out on certain bonus thresholds over the years due to large inventory discrepancies at the end of each ski season, which ate into the bottom line.

Those are the people Derek needs to apologize too.

So, wait. Deed restricted means local employees only, right? So, there was a middle class person who just sold one for that much? Isn't there price caps on transactions?

Statute of limitations.. but they're welcome to send me a return shipping box if they want them back now :-P Ebay and PayPal would go down for this as there are guarantees from them that we have assurance that they're not selling stolen goods.

Yeah, whatever, you got it all figured out. I'm moved on to try to figure out how a deed restricted house can sell for 8 figures. That's a bigger crime.

    It can't.

There are free-market and deed-restricted peppered in together all over, so I think Jay was talking about one that was a free-market one next to their deed-restricted.

I thought deed-restricted could appreciate 1% a year up to a max of 4% (plus capitol improvements)? maybe? I dunno. But they effectively don't appreciate. There is a category called R/O that has different rules, but that's all a mystery to me.

All good. I was surprised your comment went after Aspen hard working locals who are very much middle class grind in an expensive ski town. Working for SKiCO of all employers (notoriously underpaid, but free schwag, pizza parties, and think of the pro deals!).

To ASC's credit, they did just announce a $3/HR pay bump to all employees! Still can't buy a free market condo (a house LOL!) in the RFV with their wage scale, but it is progress...

pretty sure aspen is doing everything they can to make vail look like the dip shits they are
$3 an hr immediate raise vs if you stick it out to an arbitrary end date and we don't "let you go early" we'll give you $2 an hr back pay "do we look good wall street?"

The one a few doors down that sold for 8 figs was a free market unit. I was only using that to illustrate my point that their deed restricted unit is one of the better ones out there.

if they didn’t care enough to find the discrepancy, they didn’t deserve the bonus.

    Can anyone explain this?
    Assessor’s office actual value: $12,406,900

    Assessor’s office assessed value: $887,090

    Property tax bill: $60,601
Clearly that tax bill is on the higher number, so what's the purpose of the "assessed value?"

Your property taxes are calculated with the following formula: property market value x assessment rate x tax rate

The "actual value" is the market value, the "assessed value" is the value after the assessment rate is applied, and then you apply the tax rate to the assessed value to get the property tax amount.

Wow, that seems like a goofy way to do it.

Well, I left New England back in eighty nine
An' went to Aspen workin' on a rental line
The first year they had me puttin' boots on stinky feet
Every day I'd watch them bunnies roll by
And sometimes I'd hang my head and cry
'Cause I always wanted me one that was skanky and sweet

One day I devised myself a plan
That should be the envy of most any man
I'd sneak skis out of there and flip em on the old e bay
Now gettin' caught meant gettin' fired
But I figured I'd have a stack of cash by the time I retired
I'd have me a gripload of at least a hundred grand.

I'd get it one ski at a time
And it wouldn't cost me a dime
I’d keep those fuckin ebay prices down

I'm gonna boat around in style
    I'm gonna drive everybody wild
Cause I’ll be the richest ski shop rat around.

So the very next day when I punched in
With some tape and boxes and with help from my friends
I left that day with enough for a couple skiers
I've never considered myself a thief
But Aspen wouldn't miss just a couple a skis
Especially if I strung it out over several years.

The first day I got me some Salomon clamps
And the next day I got me a pair of Ramps
Then I got me a pair of Fischers and some Devastators
Ordered things I needed like tape and a box
And bindings an brakes an' they arrived at the shop
But the big stuff we snuck out in my Lincoln Navigator

Now, up to now my plan went all right
'Til some accountants came to the shop one night
And that's when they noticed that something was definitely wrong.
The count said we had fifty three
But we were supposed to have seventy three
And when we tried to call the shop girls all them hoes were gone.
So we worked it out so we wouldn’t get caught
Took a pile of cash but we paid em off
That operation was runnin' just like a song

    Corporate oversight was another sight
We had two on the left and one on the right
But when we pulled out the coke all three of 'em didn’t see shit
The back end looked kinda funny too
But we cooked those books and when we got through
Well, that's when we noticed our ebay site had a million hits

About that time my wife walked out
And I could see in her eyes that she had her doubts
But she opened the door and said "Honey, let’s buy a boat"
So we drove to the lake for a little cruise
But we got lit up with the red-and-blues
I could hear everybody laughin' for blocks around
But up there at the court house they didn't laugh
'Cause to type it up it took the whole staff
And when they got through the charges weighed sixty pounds.

I did it one ski at a time
And it didn’t cost me a dime
I kept those fuckin ebay prices down
Gonna spend 2 years in jail
Then try ‘er again at Vail
I’ll be richest ski-shop rat around

    Ugh! Yeah, RED RYDER
    This is the COTTON MOUTH
With some janky ass rental skis for sale Come on
Huh, This is the COTTON MOUTH
And negatory on the cost of this biz-ness there RED RYDER
You might say I went right up to the skico
And picked it up, it's cheaper that way
    This is fucking awesome.
