They can definitely handle something of this size and bigger. They carve up the risk into many shares that each insurer is responsible for. Was anyone willing to pay for a policy for this is another question. Most of the US Catholic churches are insured, the costs for stone work and stained glass get crazy even on small local churches.

Glenn Beck Is Spouting Insane, Dangerous Bullshit About the Notre Dame Fire
https://splinternews.com/glenn-beck-...out-1834068103
“If this was arson, this is going to be bad,” Beck began, already treading into extremely shaky ground. “If it was arson of any foreign entity, anybody with a grudge.”
Then Beck really got going, throwing out a completely unsubstantiated theory about who might have started a fire that still very well may have been an accident.
“If, and this is a huge if—it might have been started by a cigarette, we don’t know—if this was started by Islamists, I don’t think you’ll find out about it,” Beck said, plowing straight into the conspiracy zone. “I think it would set the entire country on fire. They’ve had killings, they’ve had mass shootings, they’ve had people running people down on the street. The tension is very high.”

I was just there a few days ago, and s till in France (Bordeaux currently and back to Paris in two days.) The people here are just devastated.
I took a bunch of gargoyle pictures as they are my favorite local feature. I commented to my wife as we walked along the outside of Notre Dame how cool it would be to see in a heavy rain, and all the gargoyle sspittiing water. I didn't want to see it spitting water from fire hoses.
I agree it is a constitutional right for Americans to be assholes...its just too bad that so many take the opportunity...iscariot

So someone pledged 300million to help rebuild? Wtf? Would it really take 300 million dollars to rebuild?

One wonders how they will replace that entire wooden roof structure. Maybe metal beams?

Oui was the first porn mag I ever saw. Holds a special place in my heart. Classic, found in the woods between the avenues in Scituate. Seeing two hot chicks eating muff, eye opener.

Terrible, that area and the area directly north (le marais?) are my favorite parts of Paris.
I guess the 1160 International Fire Code didn't require a sprinkler system?

ha, yeah I was thinking about medieval code too. Wasn't quite up to snuff apparently.
From the NYTimes:
“These cathedrals and houses of worship are built to burn. If they weren’t houses of worship, they’d be condemned,” said Vincent Dunn, a fire consultant and former New York City fire chief.
Good Times article: https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/...dame-fire.html
I bet they drop a $bil on the repairs easy. The cathedral in Reims burned in a similar fashion in 1919 and apparently reconstruction is still ongoing: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reims_Cathedral
