How do you drink your tequila?

I have a bottle of tequila that I’m trying to learn to enjoy. It’s a duty-free reposado from a co-worker that’s meh - ok. And my liquor cabinet is empty.

Aside from margaritas or shots I’m lost on what to make or mix this with. Usually I’ll have a whiskey / scotch on the rocks as a nightcap. Something to sip that packs a nice buzz, plus I’m lazy and don’t have many mixology ingredients. Can’t imagine enjoying tequila neat...maybe if it was Don Julio. I have OJ in the fridge so maybe a tequila sunrise.

    Paloma: tequila, lime, grapefruit soda.

Mexican mule is a good vehicle for meh tequila too.

    Neat, of course.

Or a Verm-a-rita - add a squeeze or two of lime (and a beer).

In a margarita or I'm sipping. IMHO it's good but not Whisk(e)y good, but then again that's probably not fair due to volume.

Jose Cuervo Reserva de la Famila. Just sayin'.

    Sitting comfortably.

    Until I pass out.

    Then, usually, laying down.

And if you want a margarita skip the syrup or store bought pre mixes.
    2 1 1 is a good starting point
    2 parts tequila
    1 part fresh lime juice
1 part orange liquor, triple sec, Cointreau etc.

I like the idea of soda and lime. Great suggestion! Will have to try that.

I go with 3-2-1, but, yes, always fresh squeezed lime juice.

I would recommend pouring it down the sink.

    This...

Neat should be reserved for top shelf tequila derived from 100% pure agave.
