SOLD: 2014 metal Volkl Katana 191 for '13/'14 184 length
Got a real nice pair of green 2014 metal 191's drilled for Marker Jester off Craigslist, but the 184 would be better for my weight. Anyone have a nice pair of 184cm 2012 ninjas/2013 dragons/2014 greens (or V Werks) that wants to upsize?
Edit: Sold the 2014 191 to a buddy, looking for a deal on a nice pair of 2012-2014 184. Would also be interested in another pair of 2012-2014 191 if the price is right.Last edited by 1000-oaks; 10-18-2019 at 04:15 PM.

Love my 184's won't let them go. Quick maneuverable in trees power through chop. Plenty of float in powder but have always felt I would love to try the longer version of these in wide open spaces. Any interest in selling and if so how much? Had both 183 ELP's from 2010-12 and 184's from the last year, you won't go wrong with either (although the 183s were made in China but for me skied the same as the 184s).

Thanks but not too interested in selling, they're my leverage to get 184's, lol.

I've got a pair of (I believe) 2010 Katanas in a 183 and would love to up size. Let me know if that interests you at all!

Thanks for the offer, but really only interested in 2012 to 2014 version with dragon or metallic-green topsheet (or perhaps 184 V-Werks).

I’m not a Katana historian so I’m not sure which pair I have listed. They are the 190cm Katanas, green, silver and black top sheet. Really measure around 184 cm, they aren’t even close to the 190cm they claim to be.
Are these what you are looking for?

Sorry man, I should have been more clear. Looking for one of these (same ski, different graphics).

Please don’t mind my ignorance, but what changed?

The 191 became a little stiffer and the tail of both the 184 and 191 was flattened a bit, as far as I can tell. Oh, they also added 1mm underfoot, and increased the turn radius. There aren't many reviews if the 2010 and 2011 model, so I'm not sure how many people know it's a reverse camber ski. The 184 model from 12,13,14 is the same flex as the 10,11.

^ Good info, thanks. Aren't the 10 & 11 made in China? (12/13/14 are Germany.)

I believe the 10 & 11 were made in China and they were labeled as a 183. The 184 of the later years was produced in Germany. At least that's what they were labeled. Had both 183 and 184 and they ski similar. Still have the 2014 184's

These are 100% reverse camber/rocker. There is no camber in them at all. I guess that tail is turned up a bit, at the very end I mean, but so are the Kastle MX98s, which are full camber. Interesting to see the changes. Thanks for the info

Maybe a tad bit shallower, not much different.
$100 plus shipping. They are on eBay currently. Bid there or buy them from me here, up to you. I can ship them after Labor Day cause I’m out of town for a bit.

I didn't know those were reverse camber, that 10/11 rocker profile looks nice. Also heard the 10/11 years run really short (why the "190" measures closer to 187), but the lengths became true-to-size beginning with the new 2012 generation. Was 2009 the last year of the goofy plastic insert in the tail? Wasn't a fan of the fragile clear sidewalls in the 2008 Sumo (Chinese, if memory serves), which cracked if you looked at them funny.
Volkl increased the rocker for the V-Werks, to address grumbles that the metal Katanas didn't have enough float.Last edited by 1000-oaks; 08-29-2019 at 08:03 AM.

I have a pair of the vintage like Skibrd is selling, also in 190. They are full rocker and measure ~186.5-cm. Great ski for $100 and are very manageable. While easy to ski for a skilled pilot, they are plenty stable in the 190 (187) length.

I got a 183 pair of the Skibrd vintage in mint shape with one mount for $80, looking forward to trying them out.
Will still get a pair of 2012-2014 184's when I find a nice pair at a good price, to complement my two pair of 177's (good bushwhacking length).Last edited by 1000-oaks; 01-07-2020 at 11:08 AM.
