Lange freetour hard to get in ski mode

I skied over 100 days on my freetours 130. Initially, had some problems getting them in and out of ski mode.
I figured out that they have to be buckled tightly, as you need to move the spine to get into ski mode.

Then i started spraying the mechanism with silicon.

    Then the problem started again.
I added padding to the tongue so the spine gets pressure earlier.

But i still have this issue, in the midst inconvenient terrain, like yesterday in a 50 degree couloir. Skied it with one boot in walk mode.

It seems to happen in powder.

Any idea what i should do?

    Boots are 16-17 vintage.

And it seems to happen only in my left boot?

    Anything i should check for?

I don’t have a solution, but anecdotally I bought the 17-18 version last spring and had some issues right away when in wet/heavy snow, especially if I had to walk around in deeper snow.

I was planning on using silicon spray like you had suggested in another thread but didn’t get around to buying any. This season I’ve got 35 or so days in those boots and haven’t had a problem at all; it’s like they broke in or something.

When you move the boot in between ski/hike mode you have to flex the boot forward until you hear a "click". You have to do this when switching between either mode, should work fine if done correctly.

Mine are the same vintage as yours.

^^^ I'm sure he gets that, but it doesn't hurt to ask ^^^

Did you do any extreme cuff angle adjustments?

Yes, i know about the click. And i have to have the buckles tight when i do this.

Well, in the left boot, I'm all the way with the cuff to the inside.

Now i remember people taking about this.

    Update:
Changed the cuff alignment and was able to make it a lot easier to click in ski or tour mode.

But i noticed that if i went too far in one direction, there was a lot of play in the boot upper when locked in ski mode. So i backed it off a bit.

    Hope this works.

Skiing on tour mode is not fun.
Before each turn i had to think, pull feet eat back so i can be centered.

Skied ok, but it messed with my mind, so one turn, stop, regroup mentally, repeat.

Even more embarrassing, on a couple of occasions, I've forgotten to latch into downhill mode and wondered why I was finding myself in the back seat.

I've done it too. Feels really washy at first and then you sent into that backseat gas pedal mode and you realize your mistake.
