Around me, getting renewed or non-renewed is pretty random.
I think that it’s going to contribute to another housing market problem in CA.

Turns out that fire was (thankfully) not as bad as it could have been. Fully out.
Not sure how folks are doing elsewhere, but we've been pretty lucky with the fire season so far this summer. Bunch of unsettled weather patterns have brought much needed rain out here. Most fires are smoldering at this point, and another storm front forecasted for next weekend.
Far cry from what I was expecting this summer.

I've seen some low drops, but this exit after the drop....wow.
I bet there was a little excitement in the cockpit for a few seconds.

Pretty cool video on a large fire complex in Alaska this year:
Gives you an idea on what large fires in AK are like. The drone stuff kind of blows my mind.

That was cool B - thanks for posting it up
Never thought about how the native allotments are full suppression zones. Dealing with All the scattered populations must adds a huge layer of complexity to the suppression strategy.
Drones are finding use in all kinds of ways. They had ‘em dropping fireballs a couple of years ago on Millie fire in my backyard. Seemed to work pretty well...except when the pendejo flew his own drone around the area at same time. No midair collision but he was roundly ridiculed by the community

Wish I had spent a few seasons with AFS, had the opportunity and passed it up.
The drone thing is pretty wild, but glad to see the agencies are adopting the technology.
This is going to be a game changer as well:

Meadow skipper did the AFS detail in 2010 and it blew my mind . It was good to fire fire and have fun again. AFS was called the land of misfit toys. All the folks who did not fit in to the lower 48.
But after my 90 days at wainwright i was thinking they were the smart ones.......
It was fun to hear old war stories from the salty fire dogs ... AK style

^My 12 years at AFS were my golden ones. The most interesting fires, the greatest toys, the coolest people, the best stories, the fewest constraints. Good times.
People were calling it the land of misfit toys, etc. back in my day too. Things could get funny when AFS people detailed to the lower 48.

I know it’s 2020, but I didn’t want to start a new thread about this very sad news. A US air tanker crashed in Australia killing the crew of three. RIP.

2019 Wildfire Season
BUSH FIRE EVENING UPDATE: The Bush Fire started at approximately 2:00 pm today, near the intersection of Bush Hwy and Hwy 87. The fire is estimated to be 600 acres, and burning to the north towards the Sugarloaf Recreation area along the southbound lanes of Hwy 87. The fire has crossed Hwy 87 to the east and is now burning along Four Peaks Road. There is no containment at this time.
Currently there are 9 engines, 2 hotshot crews, and 4 air tankers assigned to the fire. Three additional crews and multiple engines have been ordered, and are responding to the fire. Firefighters are working to hold the fire on the west side of Hwy 87, and are building containment lines and using fire operations to suppress the fire.
Hwy 87 is currently closed in both directions at the FS RD 143, which is the road to Four Peaks and Sugarloaf. At this time, Lower Sycamore Canyon, Sugarloaf Recreation area and Four Peaks Recreation area are closed. The Bush Fire is currently under investigation. Law enforcement personnel are conducting sweeps of the closure areas to safety escort members of the public out of the fire area. No structures are threatened at this time and no injuries have been reported.
Fire crews will continue to working throughout the night to complete containment lines around the fire perimeter. Smoke and flames will be visible this evening. Stage 2 Fire Restrictions are in effect on the Tonto National Forest. Fire danger ratings are extreme. See our website for more information.
