I pulled an early August date- total gamble that we can hit monsoon season along with a drop in irrigation demand. It happened last time for us so we will see.
I figure it’s totally worth the gamble. If not I will go fish the Beaverhead.

That’s crows foot, right? I think that’s an underrated camp spot

Wow, great eye Phall. You are correct.

Love that camp. Nice and open, great place to chill and catch the sunset.

And there is a pretty nice swing run right in front of camp.

Anyone score this year? Struck out. Mixed feelings on the new draw system but I get it.

Anyone score? Struck out. The new draw is a bummer for Non-res but I totally get it as we play this game in hunting all the time.

I'm now 0/20 for the Smith, the whole family struck out. Does Montana still do cancellations?

    Smith River Reservation Line
Beginning on Monday, March 4, 2024 you may call the Smith River Reservation Line at 406-454-5861 Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 12 noon Mountain Time to:

Request any remaining launch dates that may be available

Pick up a cancelled launch date

    Cancel a launch date

Non res is now only 10% of tags, and if you were unsuccessful you now have a preference point and its a point based draw moving forward.

I’d imagine we’ll see some cancellations due to low water later in the season.

Tough blow for the Smith River with the Montana Supreme Courts decision to allow the mine to move forward.

I did the Smith years ago but gave up on the permit process. IMO the best option is to wait for a year with good late summer rain and jump on it after permit/irrigation season.

Figured I’d be another year older when I did until bud texts me saying he drew and to hop on. April 27 launch. Should be spicy. TR to come.

Have put on twice around then. Fishing is hit or miss but with snowpack this year it could be ok, won’t float it with a raft below 220

I’m not the best resource there. It was either 250 or 1200 when I did it. 🤣

i'm trying to go back and compare snowpack and flow totals from years past. not wishing this for snowfall and water's sake going into summer, but it seems like there is a chance that 4/27 could actually be post-runoff, at least the brunt of it.

No problem getting a hard boat down at 450.

Jealous of your April draw. Fishing will be incredible.
