I believe it. Even if you live north of the express lane entrance, I don't think it's any faster anymore.

Guiliani may be the nation's nutty grandad right now, but, he really cleaned up a ton of shit in NY real fast. And it's not as though the rest of the country just happened to be on a parallel track. Most mayors and police chiefs around the country sat up and took notice and came to NYC to study and learn and took it home with them.

...and when they broke down all the data the conclusion was that legalized abortion was the most important factor in the change in crime nationwide. (See the first Freakonomics book.) NYC wasn't particularly early in the trend it just sucked way worse than anywhere else at the time.

Maybe long term trends, but, I'm talking immediate change. I was living and working there, I saw it, along with millions . NYC had declined to a sad shitshow with a corrupt and apathetic police force under Dinkins, and Rudy hired Bratton and changed urban policing almost overnight. Then he turned into a dick, but, he was always a dick of sorts. But, NYC needed a dick to fix shit.

I don't think most cities were like NYC though, and you can't dismiss Rudy's role in changing NYC as just 'happening to be there'. And I've never heard of lead gasoline ban resulting in less crime, that's interesting. I've only heard about the reduction of crime linked to abortion. Did a quick search though and the study says their lead theory would go to shit if NYC and DC was included in the murder reduction numbers though, so even the study negates the lead ban having to do anything with reduced murder in NYC:

"...........was responsible for approximately a 56% decline in violent crime". While cautioning that the findings relating to "murder are not robust if New York and the District of Columbia are included...."

There's a growing body of evidence that lead exposure leads to big increases in criminal behavior.

The past tense "was" for the “lead-crime hypothesis” was a little confusing so the intent was to substantiate your response because the theory is currently the best explanation.

Just read through this babblethread. Getting away from TGR for a few months has its benefits. This thread mostly sucks. Sinclair Broadcasting and Tim Eyman can go fuck themselves.

Yeah, like, that guy in Vegas basically at least tripled a top ten serial killer count in very short time.

I know we're from different political bents but one thing we both clearly agree on; Tim Eyman can go fuck himself. Short-sighted asshole who's fleecing short-sighted voters on his short-sighted initiatives so can make a living fleecing them for his personal financial support with his dumb-ass initiatives. I-976 is going to screw us all for transportation. I guess he's not much of a watch salesman. He's a total dick.
