Got tomatoes in the ground in mid march when it was 80 for a week here. Been pulling roughly this much off 4 plants every day for a few weeks now, freezing most to turn around and make a huge batch of salsaClick image for larger version.

Anyone know that kind of tomaters these are?

Coworker’s husband does some experimental horticulture and gave the sprout to me and I just threw it in the garden.

Been green for weeks. Click image for larger version.

Harvested one plum tree. Looks like wine in our future. Or maybe plum sake?

Did more digging, asked for dirt and landscaping materials for my birthday. Dug out a new bed for peas and radishes. Hoping for cooler weather soon...

Garlic harvest today. About half what we got last year; still, a nice haul.

Nice! I dididn't know you braided those together. I asked my wife what kind of garlic grows like that? She laughed at me. We got a much smaller harvest this year as well.

Great thread. I can't believe that it took this long to discover it. Strong work! I especially love those Dahlias, but it's all good.

I say that every season. And every season I watch them climb to the top of their 6' cages then jump to the next cage and colonize it. Tomatoes can't be stopped. Might as well run some wires to the rafters and have them climb even higher in your case.

True. I’ve got wires running all over; they’ll climb out the roof vent if I let them.

I remember reading about a trellising technique that connects separate rows of tomatoes with sections of flexible PVC pipes (or something of the sort) to make an arch. Each row has its own trellis running 6' tall then once the plants get to the top they start following the arch and meet up with plants of the other row at the top. You end up with tunnels between rows and harvest from inside the tunnel. Insanity.

edit: something like this but not held together with duct tape and crusty 2x4s. Entire rows in a green house. Wonder how you get to the fruits that are on the outside of the arch at the apex...

I have 4 indeterminate cherry tomatoes and 4 indeterminate full sizers. They were producing well, got a bit spindly and some yellow lower leaves. I side dressed them with some 5-10-10. Holy crap, they immediately invaded everything around them and went off on foliage. Of course they went from quarter/dime sized cherries to a scourge of pea sized cherries.

They seem to now be trending back to the quarter sized versions with a lot more flowers. The increase in foliage I hope works out well.

I also had some Marzano tomatoes suffering from blossom end rot. The plant was producing well, but every tomato rotted on the end. My cherry tomatoes and other full sizers weren’t having the problem. I kept the shell of every egg we used, microwaved that shit dry, ground the hell out of it. Put it around the plant, watered it in and now I’m getting unadulterated tomatoes from it.

Still have a lot of work to go, but I’m happy with how this growing season has gone.

The leaves on my cucumbers and melons have almost completely dried out and are mostly dead now. The cukes and melons are still growing but I feel like they're also not maturing right. What do I need to add to the soil or water to reinvigorate them? I know that generally with potatoes you wait until the leaves yellow before you pull them but what if the leaves are just going right to brown and shriveled? Did I wait too long?
