I thought the interview's highlight was with the kid who fell off the lift.
I do believe that all OSHA and Tramway board reports should be public information.

WTF? this is from KUNC? holy fuck!!! This is about as sensationalist as it gets. Catch the part where he tries to imply (conclude) that because the family couldn't find an attorney who wanted to take the case, that means that the operator wasn't negligent under the current state of the law? That said, it is pretty fucking sketchy that the kid's account differs so wildly from the incident report.
If we're gonna wear uniforms, we should all wear somethin' different!

Oh GOD Ohhhhh GOD!! Someone could get hurt skiing!!!! In fact they DO!!
We DEMAND that all injuries be reported!!!!!
This is HUGE first world problems stuff. While we are engaging in action sports we need to k ow how safe it is.
Either that or shut your pie hole and not go skiing if ANY risk is too much.

When my younger girl was six she would routinely ride the double with her eight year old sister, and some other kids--actually felt better about that than when she was with random adults, as I knew her sister could take care of herself (beginner adults are probably more of a menace to young kids than a help). They always put the bar down (skied mostly in VT where there's some law about using the bar). If the lift were to stop suddenly I have no doubt the bar could help, but it obviously does little to keep kids from sliding out. But as others have pointed out, the acceptable age varies quite a bit kid to kid (I'm amazed my parents let my brothers and I ride by ourselves at all--we were probably completely idiotic dangers to ourselves through middle school). Also the fact that my daughters both had a few hundred ski days under their belts by the age of six makes it seem a lot less dangerous. If I were taking a six year old who was just learning to ski on a lift I might think differently.
I know a father and son who were both seriously injured--the father permanently--from a chairlift fall when the kid started sliding off and the father made a grab for him. 30 feet onto rocks (I think it was in Maine). The belief was always that if they'd had the bar down they probably woulda been OK.[quote][//quote]
