Back in the good old days of Vietnam, you could be arrested in New Hampshire for putting a piece of tape over the motto on your license plate, as many were doing. And of course the license plates about living freely and dying were made by prisoners in prison, an irony that helped launch Bill Morrisey's songwriting career-- on Shoot the Cat records . . . https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rIqyjhzDLYU

Pussies!
It makes perfect sense...until you think about it.
I suspect there's logic behind the madness, but I'm too dumb to see it.

They tried this like a decade ago as well. It was all hush hush until they changed the signs on the highway then became a big stink.
Give it a couple weeks, and all the backwoods libertarians out west by Keene will have raised enough hell the true motto will return.
I am a bit biased though.Live Free or Die

So wait, you don't have the freedom to not have "Live Free or Die" on your car?
'Murca?
Just like those poor Manitobans - required to be "Friendly" all the fkn time.

Don't mess with state mottos/slogans.
IIRC a while back Idaho tried to remove "Famous Potatoes" from their license plates. People were not happy esp. the Idaho Potato Commission.
Now you can get a special potato plate!
^^^ That's an awesome plate. You could have a lot of fun coming up with potato themed personal plates“When you see something that is not right, not just, not fair, you have a moral obligation to say something. To do something." Rep. John Lewis

I wouldn’t mind stamping out the Garden State
It’s enough to make me cry

If you look at the article, they are just using "Live Free" without the rest in some marketing materials, no one is changing the state motto or the license plates. "Come to New Hamphire and Live Free or Die!" doesn't really work on a tourist brochure.

Always wondered if the whole “Live Free or Die” thing was meant to be a suggestion, command or threat.
Speaking of while driving up 93 last week some old geezer in an 20 yr old Honda Civic starts riding my ass like I’m in prison, even though I’m going 75. I finally am able to change lanes and sure enough turns out Elmer is one of the 4723 citizen legislators that populate the NH House of Representatives. I was going to out him via the plate number on the inter webs but a. I didn’t give enough of a fuck and 2. His ride was plastered with ski stickers,Damn, we're in a tight spot!

Why not use the whole quote - “Live free or die. Death is not the greatest of evils.”
Laughing at the comments from the nh hicks.
And the joke about it in current times is our assfuck gov is going to veto the legal weed if it passes. Live free eh?While all the surrounding states actually are more free than us.

Well NH folks drink more booze than any other state, by gallons (of pure alcohol). He really didn't need the business.

A centrally controlled government liquor distribution system seems a little Soviet to me. Live Free or Die my ass.
