Hold on. Squash is a sport that has actually been played in the last 50 years?
Edit: maybe this explains why I didn't realize people still played squash:
•Squash players and fans represent a highly targeted demographic of men and women, with median incomes of more than $300,000 and an average net worth of $1,500,000.

It is kinda interesting how squash, like tennis, is such a rich boy game yet ultimately costs basically nothing to play. Well conceivably, since the only places I know with squash courts are rich private schools (like Dartmouth).

OH falling back to the "these are my friends" or "meet my black friend" defense eh??
FWIW, my cousin played at USC in the mid 90s under John Robinson. He actually played in grad school, took real classes and made very good grades. He earned his MBA from SC. Odd that he never mentioned the discipline problems your friends seemed to exhibit.Go that way really REALLY fast. If something gets in your way, TURN!

USC has never had football scandals... OJ Simpson, Al Cowlings, Reggie Bush, Pete Carroll, Lane Kiffin, Steve Sarkisian.
Two confiscated Heismans, history of NCAA sanctions and bowl ineligibility, and a culture of players and coaches taking illegal benefits. Let’s not forget AD Pat Hayden running onto the field to verbally threaten the referees during a game.
They hire Lynn Swann as AD to restore credibility and his right hand lady takes multiple bribes to get celebrity kids accepted as star athletes in sports they don’t even play.

imagine a college with athletes having to meet the same academic standards as the everyday students. no more "minor league" football, basketball, etc teams. would look like ivy and military academy teams everywhere, which is fine by me.

I went to a small lib arts university, but by no means Ivy League.
The cheer when we were getting smoked yet again was “that’s alright, that’s OK, you’re gonna work for us someday”!

Saw this in the WP today.

Auction 10% of the spots at highly selective colleges to the highest bidder. All bidders must meet the same minimum GPA and SAT criteria as other students who are admitted. The winnera hacw to pay, even if they decide to go elsewhere. Eliminate all legacy admissions. Use the money to lower tuition and increase enrollment and financial support of poor students.
I would go further and require that admitted athletes at all colleges or university, whether scholarship or not, must have SAT scores and GPA's equal to or higher than the lowest among non-athlete admitted students. (Some years ago, my alma mater Oberlin, after 10 years of winning no football games, decided to recruit football players. They set a minimum SAT of 1200, which might be decent at ASU but would never get you into Oberlin if you weren't an athlete or could really rock out on the oboe.) If it were up to me I would eliminate college sports altogether but this Murica, ain't going to happen, but at least require the athletes to be up to the academic standards of the school. I'm guessing 'Bama will still keep winning football games. (But it sure was fun to see Sabin get his ass kicked this year.)

My wife was hired by a college that had recruited it's first men's lacrosse team from a pool that included many who's academics were weak. Her job was to help them learn how to learn so that the freshman could get to be seniors without flunking out. Most of her first class were still on the team when they won the National Championship a few years later.

Hey, I could make a bunch of shit up and you dummies wouldn't know. Just saying that I knew a number of the players and was familiar with the program back in the early-mid 1980s (And not just via the weight room! John Guerrero (he was a Mexican) and Marc Sager used to host Saturday Night Porn in their dorm. I always brought good beer, which was not always appreciated, as most of those in attendance preferred the cheap stuff. Fucking deplorables!
SC significantly changed admission requirements for incoming football players around 1990, so when Coach Rob took over those new standards were already in affect. I really don't know much about what went within the program, at least at the level of the players, during the 1990s. Who was your cuz? Was he on the Rose Bowl team?
Kindly allow me to rephrase, they were uncoachable, i.e., not-at-all bright. (i.e., i.e., i.e., not college material)
OJ dropped out of school following the Rose Bowl. This is a scandal? Please explain to me what was so scandalous about Pete Carroll. Doinking that twenty-year-old co ed? Not at all illegal, and he was onto something, as I would find out for myself later!
And now you're making stuff up.
Yeah. And Alabama, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, et al have never had such activities going on in their programs. This shit happens all over! And has been for a long time.
I'm with you on this point! Both Haden and Swann were/are jokes as athletic directors. Haden was a member of USC's Borad of Trustees and help orchestrate the hiring of Lane Kiffin, the firing of previous AD Mike Garret, and his hiring as Garret's replacement (along with a $2MM / anum salary). None of these three men had any previous experience or qualifications to warrant a job as an athletic director at a Div I university. But at least Garret had a set and wasn't afraid to fight for USC. But this is what really got SC into trouble with the NCAA when the Bush situation was revealed. The NCAA came down hard on USC because of Mike Garret and their battles with him during the 1990s. Had SC played the game like all the other programs that "cheat" e.g., Texas, Ohio State, Michigan, Alabama, et al, not much would have come out of the "Bush and his family receiving payments from some wannabe sports agents" situation. Of course you fucking dummies don't know that.Last edited by Viva; 03-20-2019 at 08:48 PM.
