    RIP Hal Blaine

    Dude was 90, which is somehow surprising. I hadn't realized he was so much older than the bands he was recording for.

    For anyone unfamiliar, this guy was *the* drummer for so much of the best pop music of the 60s, as part of the "Wrecking Crew" in LA. If you haven't seen it, the Danny Tedesco documentary from a few years back is a great introduction. I always love listening to the session chatter with Brian Wilson from the Pet Sounds sessions, hearing how well they communicated to one another.

    Here are the five tracks they chose to feature, but it's an understatement to say that they don't even begin to scratch the surface. The guy had serious range.







    Interestingly, that song was a huge influence on Brian Wilson ("Don't Worry Baby" was written as a sort of answer), so it's fitting that it would be featured alongside the next one...
