    Skiing the Mendenhall Icefall

We've had a rare week+ of sun in Juneau and the snow on the glacial ice has gone through a nightly freeze/thaw cycle which has made it stick to the ice and provided a crusty surface to ski on. Spent the last few days poking around skiing spines and gullies on the glacier. The snow was crusty, then as the sun comes out it corns briefly, but then it just pulls off the ice when you try to ski it, so the window is pretty narrow. Fun times doing drone "selfies". These are frame grabs from video.

Did you happen to see the GSA or DD in your travels? I heard a rumor they are out there... trying to start up their own heli op.

Your lack of awareness of TGR lore and amazing snaps don't compute.... I really should reevaluate my life.

I have 11,000 (I'm wasting my time posts), I've tried to stay away from this place, so yeah, I'm not up to date anymore.

Sweet shots. If you ever want to waste some more time start a skiing drone thread. I’m intrigued by the auto follow drones. Haven’t looked into them too closely yet.

    Great skiing and photos.

Nice work. I'm having trouble wrapping my head around consequence if you miss your window. Snow sliding off the ice would make for a very scary ride.

Pics are deceiving, pretty benign angles and low consequences, or I wouldn't be there.

I got some buds who did that Shagway to Juneau traverse which i believe came done Mendenhall

every traverse presentation I see is just more reinforcement that i don't want to do a traverse

    Fucking Christ.

Echoing Norse; crevasses and blue ice with seemingly three inches on top are terrifying.

That icefall ever fill in enough that it's not just a mountaineering exercise?
Right down just above sea level no?
