Way too many people are dying by themselves.

Shit. Vibes to friends and family. Sadly, there's been a real dark side to Telluride's season, vibes to the whole community; stay safe out there please!
If we're gonna wear uniforms, we should all wear somethin' different!

Condolences. From the picture/description it looks like those meadows out passed the trestle behind Trout Lake, which are all sub 30deg. Maybe closer to 25deg. I could be wrong though.
    It sucks to suck.

This one is real scary to me because I think I also would have skied that slope solo. Like sometimes you just want a quick mellow lap sub 30 deg solo to get out there. If the slope actually measures 25 deg, I wonder what could have been differently here.

I'm not oriented very well, where was the burial site relative to the caltopo link?

Plus it was South facing. Two conditions that can normally be considered safe. This isn't a normal year.

The second photo from the heli looks much steeper than 25 degrees but I am not familiar with the area. I'm quite sure the final report will clarify things.

curious if anyone knows, what is the "typical" time it takes for a report to become final? I'm still checking the Death Pass report (on the GT course) waiting for that to be non-preliminary...

Anywhere from a week to a month, usually.

I will be very curious to read... I've never heard of remotely triggering a slide from above (what I understood to have happened?) on a slope of that angle...

When I saw the location of this I knew there was a good chance I would know the victim. And I did. Not real well, but he was a character you don’t forget. His father was a former mayor of Telluride and newspaper publisher.
Looks to me like the slide went to flat and stacked up deep.
If you want to learn from these events, the lesson here is runout zone.
And a partner of course. Not to be a hypocrite because I solo all the time.

He was a good, knowledgeable dude and it's hard to understand why he went out given the conditions (no judgement).

It's that in-the-moment, decision making process that is often discussed here. But he chose to go alone, in the San Juans and I'm just really sad for his family and all of Telluride. Be safe out there P, glad you are loving the PNW!

Shitty situation. This is the type of problem you think is manageable and it probably is with a partner and an airbag... not solo.

I was thinking it was the basin above Matterhorn and the old Galloping Goose bed. There's a skin track from the nordic center that climbs up from there and is along the bike trail. I was eyeballing this as a route and a couple at Matterhorn described a lake up there and some mellow terrain....

Was he also the mayor of Rico? I believe I met him in January XC skiing at Matterhorn. So sorry to hear about this. RIP.
