Yo Cody. What ski poles these?
They’re not Salomon unless I’m mistaken.

If you don't know what poles these are you clearly can't handle them.

Your poles are fine. I guarantee these are nowhere near as impressive in real life. Fisheye lens + small hands = LIES

If the are not the Black Crows, there is a good chance they are the A2-16 also out of Chamonix

Pretty sure the grips are just pipe insulation with zip ties around it. He posted an up close picture on his story a couple weeks ago. Some real ingenuity right there!

Just bought a pair of these which are pretty similar: https://www.bergzeit.co.uk/grivel-tr...RoCzsEQAvD_BwE
They're very yellow though!

OMG, I'm using the wrong poles...no wonder I ski like shit. All it takes are poles like that to ski like Cody, right?
I agree it is a constitutional right for Americans to be assholes...its just too bad that so many take the opportunity...iscariot

A better view of the poles from Ming Poon's instastory. These seem to be the nicer/more carefully done version of the ziptie ones in the video below.
Also, glad to see his mom still labels his lunch.Last edited by whitenab; 02-28-2019 at 04:23 PM. Reason: posted too hastily

That's definitely handlebar grip tape.

I thought that too but I think it's pipe insulation with zip ties. Bar tape would be fun to try, though. You could do a layer of cork tape and then a layer of something grippy, like lizard skins or supacaz, on top. Might be mint. Might also be a waste of time and money and you'd wish you'd just bought pipe insulation haha

if that is insulation/zip ties that's a pretty sweet pole mod and I am definitely gonna copy it. I've been using climbing tape wrapped over some ~3mm cord wound round the pole and it's functional but not ideal

Mastic tape works well for stuff like this. Grippy and weather proof.

Noob question here, is the purpose of the grip tape/pipe insulation/bar tape for ascending without collapsible poles? I like the idea.

I re-used the grip tape off my road bike^^ the tape only gets worn on one edge cuz the other edge is covered by the overlap so you can take it off the bars and reuse it by wrap it on the pole bottom to top with the unused side showing, secure with electrical tape
the reason for wrapping bottom to top is so that when you are gripping/ pulling down on the pole you don't wreck the tape
I put that Cannondale cork tape on the BD flicklock pole several years agoLee Lau - xxx-er is the laziest Asian canuck I know
