    Board size

Haven’t snowboarded in a few years since I decided to learn to ride the sticks. Looking at the Jones explorer for my all resort board. With directional cam/rock 5’10” and 190 ride weight should I go 159 or 162? Jones says 162, I just feel like that is big for me? I’ve been crushing on a 156, but when I got to the deep pow with this last storm I couldn’t stay on top even when straight lining...but it was waist deep.

Also plan on buying a split board this summer and it will be a 162+

Depends on where and how you ride. Do you ride fast and aggressively? Or need more float? Go bigger.
Do you ride slower or more casually or frequently ride tight trees? Error on the smaller side.
3cm difference isn't a lot, you'll be fine either way.

Flex and waist width are just as important: wider/stiffer rides longer and narrower/softer rides shorter. A little longer, narrower, and softer is my preferred combo. 161cm/24.5cm is my go to setup and I'm 5'10" 185. It's hard to find narrowish boards anymore. Head and Palmer specialized in them.

any thing under 160cm feels like a toy.

165 is my short board for trees, 169-174 every day drivers carving and allmountain widths, 180+ powder boards 24.8 wide and 26 wide for deep days,

Hard boots add weight affect flex. Terje rides a 56 and Jeremy rids a 62 so your estimation is not realistic for 99% of riders.

that's my 50 dollar ebay rock board, was amazed when I took out on a deep day; floats, carves, and shreds all mt. with my best boards, the steepwater took over the rock board slot

I don't mind extra power over a board, any difference to flex goes unnoticed
on gear that'l last 20 years
the arbor koawood 170 with stepins and new hardboots weighs a couple # more than your 158 w/glorified sorels for sure,
and 4# less than my 169 venture split

guess I'm just used to it as I learned as a full sized adult in the 80s on a 170 that could hold an edge then in 92 bought a 186 twin tip Nitro to handle alpy bc

You should just ski cause what you’re doing is basically mono boarding.

With regard to “Sorels”. The boardercross athletes do pretty well. As do the free ride competitors. None in hardboots anymore.

you try'em both and get back to me on wich stance give you the most board control
I do ski, prolly as well as most mags when I converted to one edge
I gave up laces and straps as pain in the ass breakable gear in '90
don't wanna convert anybody, but full size guy's benefit from displacement in the deep

Hey OP, the 162 isn't going to feel too big at your size. Just ride the splitboard at the resort. I'm not entirely kidding.

I doubt the 156 length is the #1 reason you're not floating in pow.
so i have to stand duck in lace ups on a short board to float pow? please elaborate so I can fit the mold
bet I out float you on my grocer

the floatiest short board I ever had, 133. shape matters as much as displacement, tightest trees I ever surfed

sorry for the threadjack, now back to your regularly scheduled duckfoot laces and straps

Duck isn't always about switch riding. Everyone has different postures, feet and knees

You're basically just skiing backward. Not riding switch. And, no way you do any kind of spin with those angles and widths. Wide Duck angle is mostly for pipe and flippy spinny.

    bingo
duck hurts my back hip and knee

"The mold is absolutely hard boots, 180+ boards, and carving stances. I'd stick with that."

never once said I fit the mold and I'll stick with it cause I like float

no flippy spinny on my gear, 540 is the best I can do, no flippy spinny on twin sticks either

so when I ski backwards on two boards it's called switch, but if I do 1 board backward it's not called switch, got it. fakie then
