That is great and very interesting after reading the description. Sampling was poorly understood back then and these guys were ahead of their time. I never bought My Life in the Bush of Ghosts when it came out, even though the Eno-produced Remain in Light is probably my favorite Heads album. Lots of that sound in this.

(You'll have to click the link, but it is Willie Nelson and Bob Dylan singing Poncho and Lefty together.)
Dylan being Dylan sings it with a reworked melody and phrasing. Not a great day for his voice but he makes it interesting anyway.

It's a hard to find a live Freddy King performance that isn't close to perfect. He's the best guitarist-vocalist.... ever, and the most underrated musician... ever. His band is also terrific- the best blues ensemble after the early Muddy Waters Band with Little Walter, Otis Spann and Willie Dixon.
I think the number one reason the Blues had faded is over my lifetime is that the three most unique talents since Muddy Waters (Little Walter, Magic Sam and Freddy King) all died before the reached 40. The only one who made it to 1970 was Freddy King, and he was a towering powerhouse that didn't fit the image of the quaint country blues man that appealed to the White hippies who were proud of themselves for "discovering" the blues.
On a related note:
Magic Sam only has one studio album that sounds like it was recorded by professionals because he was stuck on a shitty record label for a decade. He has one of the great voices ever recorded and a weird guitar style that matches it well- unlike the many Eric Claptons of the world who are technically masterful but far more derivative than inspired.
I've never seen a live recording of Little Walter that is any good. There is some footage from a European tour, but he doesn't even have a proper amp/mic setup. I think he was drunk and didn't give a shit.
For those who don't know, and who are sticking around for my rant, here is why Little Walter matters: He is the central figure in discovering and exploring how an amplifier could do more than make music louder. The distortion and overdrive that became commonplace in blues, rock and country guitar all started with Little Walter fucking around on the harmonica in the '40's. He is also one of the great melodic improvisers in any genre. Lots of people can shred, but the players who can produce melodies on the fly are rare. I believe he is also the best song writer in his genre. Blues isn't exactly known for it variety, but if you listen to his whole catalogue no two songs have a similar groove or melody. It was so easy for him that his instrumental tracks have enough unique riffs in them that a typical musician would have used that material for 10 songs. The only other musician I can think of that packed so much "new" into songs was Mingus. I'm not talking cramming lots of "clever" shit into one song, prog rock style. I'm talking about guys who just have so many good sounds and grooves floating around in their head that they don't hesitate pack a bunch of them into one song. Joni Mitchell did it too.
Speaking of Mingus...
