Has the Troll Wall been skied?

Kilian Jornet has balls as big as Frosty, but did he "ski" the Fiva Route?

    Watch and decide for yourself

I say yes. Interesting self-belay technique with the two axes attached to his harness, although often it didn't seem like he was getting much purchase--placements almost looked a little shaky. That was pretty cool though.

oh, if we are being serious, absolutely yes lol. unroped, ice axe self-belay is as aid as it got? I mean shit I've stepped myself through icy chokes with whippet placements, what's the difference? (aside from the fact that I'm not skiing 50-60º+ for 5k')

I saw plenty of turns in there...

He descended a climbing route with skis on. Doesn't look like skiing how I think about it, but it is very impressive nonetheless.

He was on snow, with skis on, and not on rappel. Mark it, Dude.

If he’d of had his Soul 7’s on it wouldn’t of been too interesting to watch, easy peasy.

Glad he stuck with the Salomon’s to keep it challenging.

that's kind of how I see it.

But that video was annoying, what's the point of making a video in english then having sizable chunks with people speaking french, and no subtitles. Am I just supposed to vibe what they're saying?

    Agreed.

And, yeah, Danno I was thinking that at first too, and then I remembered that Youtube has internal closed-captioning.

    that was my point.

Guess I should have made my qualifier: didn't look fun to me. But that could also be that it is so far out of my experience level that I just can't even comprehend it.

Yup, count it. I guess there's the possibility that someone else could do it better, but that doesn't mean this doesn't count.

You would need to ask Rog if you are looking for a definitive answer. I believe he is the final arbiter in these matters.

Bonus: You'll now be able to understand all that weird Japanese near-porn you're into watching on there.

    He's making turns... it counts.

Doesn't look all that fun, but intense and impressive for sure.

This type of skiing is a subset of the sport of skiing. Of course it counts. Takes some big stones to ski this.

Has the Troll Wall been skied?

Is it the weight of the axes that make his arms flail

Super impressive. I almost shit when he pulled both axes out of the ice for a split second and all his weight was just on his edges, on fkn ice. He was not fazed..at..all

Yeah, the water ice section was crazy, edges must have been razor sharp. Also impressive on tech bindings, but I guess being a 95 lbs french guy helps.
