2/16/19, three skiers caught in two Teton Pass slides

    From the Bridger-Teton avy center:

    WESTERN WYOMING PM FORECAST
ISSUED ON SAT FEBRUARY 16, 2019 6:56 PM

    SITUATION

Overcast skies and light snow showers were interspersed with periods of sunshine on Saturday. Mountain temperatures rose into the low teens as the valleys climbed into the mid-20s. Southwesterly to westerly ridgetop winds ranged from 10 to 20 miles per hour.

Three human triggered avalanches were reported on Saturday. Two skiers were caught in the Wolf Trap slide path below Avalanche Bowl on the south side of Teton Pass. One was fully buried and the other was partially buried. Companion rescue was successful, and only minor injuries were sustained. On the north side of the pass, a skier or rider was partially buried in Chicken Scratch to the north of Glory Bowl. A skier also remotely triggered a very large avalanche on the Gros Ventre landslide. This slide failed on well-developed facets. Partially clearing skies allowed for another observation of a very large avalanche, which occurred recently on Pyramid Peak in the Southern Tetons. The crown depth was estimated to be around six feet, and the avalanche connected three separate drainages.
Attribute skill or luck, no one was killed or seriously injured.

Lots of activity in that area.

Companion rescue thank God! It really worries me when folks I know go back solo. Glad to hear these incidents ended with all living to ski another day.
Go that way really REALLY fast. If something gets in your way, TURN!
