Maintained and built up his lead, but at least the pack of leaders was much closer in stage 2

Martin is in the Amaury Pierron zone.
Hoping Sammy can get his groove back.

Yeah, Martin is in full on beast mode. As other's have said he needs to find a weekend where he can do XC in the early AM, 3 stages of an enduro starting at 11, and then a DH race in the evening. UCI should move some schedules around just to make it possible.

That's racing. Those 2 last longer stages settled the sharp end nicely

Heh. I put together an xc team, but honestly I'm just randomly picking names. I have no idea who any of these people are except for a few of the top guys/ girls.

Same. I picked my knowns and the add ons were some names I heard Brentjens talk about a bit last year. Free fun though. No chance of winning and I'm not sure what I'd do with a sid besides sell it

I give almost zero shits about XC racing. It’s road biking on awkward mountain bikes.

Abelstadt is going to suck but last years late season courses were action packed. Fun watching the mix of really good tech riders and shitty roadies. Was great to see it make a big difference in the results. Xc seems to be heading in a good direction. Almost died with semi slicks and roadies drafting in peletons

XC has gotten much better, and the short track is fun to watch.

Ft. Bill, qualies looked interesting, Loris and Amaury putting some time in on the field.

Going to be a great battle. Amaury and Loris are definitely on it. Loris is eaking out tenths everywhere. He looks so relaxed. Minmin playing it safe and still sliding into 10th but that's a lot of time to make up. Guessing Charlie, Laurie and Loic flatted and Danny and Aaron are keeping a bit in the tank
Then so many darkhorses, Dak, Luca, Eddie, Bernard, Walker etc etc

    Amaury... wow.

That time difference of the top 5... does anyone think the track got faster when it stopped raining? Were they that much faster?

    Rachel... when she’s on... wow.

Interesting to see how much the track changed from the top women, to the 20-30th men, then again to the last few guys to run.

Yeah, that would have been nice re: another camera, it's the pedal-y bit before the jumps... not sure how that looks (coverage wise).

Ya I guess. Maybe a cable cam through both wood sections. Rachel’s run looked to be one of the slowest. Smooth but I think coverage missed her biggest time gains. Tracy had the best looking run. The majority of Tracy’slost time was in the xc section but I’d like to see it. The other tricky wood section would show the real class of the day. Sucks for Marine. She had an off day. She’s much better than that run but best to leave the Fort healthy. Lost a few racers but looks like the top dogs managed to bounce well. Fingers crossed for Gwin and Reece. Series is heating up

Great race. So many riders that are legit contenders. And so many guys taking huge crashes over the weekend. Hoping everyone came out more or less unscathed.

    Loic’s crash .......... Holy Shit!
    Gwin’s crash .......... Damn!
Troy’s run ........ How did he not win?
Amaury. When he’s on, close the door.

Loic and Rachel's runs were classic examples of smooth riding looking slow, but in actuality being fast. Greg's too.

But then Troy and Amaury went and it reminded me of watching the top level EWS riders, where it just seems like they spend less time touching the ground. Track conditions are less of an issue when you're not actually in contact with it...

As to whether the course was running faster... I was thinking that was a possibility too. I think the visibility gains were probably greater than the actual track speed gains. BUT when the higher qualifiying riders post faster times, that's also just proof that they qualified in the "correct" order.

Regardless, it was such a fun race to watch. Can't wait for the next stop, and especially can't wait for the women's field to be back to full strength. More battles there only add to the fun.
