Taking fish pics while solo..
I fish solo 99.8% of the time. No one wants to fish with me. I’m too scared to ask someone else to fish with me because I know I will hate them afterwards. And I generally like being alone when fishing.
But, it’s really preventing me from becoming an instagram sensation.
Yeah I carry my phone in my waders, and I have a ton of DSLR gear at home, but I can’t stand the clusterfuck involved with trying to get it out to snap a pic of the 12” stocker I just caught.
Although I feel like I’m saving fish lives, by not taking photos, I kinda would like some documentation for myself, and my wife(so she knows I was actually fishing, and not at an opium den or (in her mind) at my side pieces house).
So tell me your fish photo technique while solo.Last edited by KenJongIll; 02-10-2019 at 05:46 PM.

I read somewhere that you can strap your gopro to your net and have it set up for periodic stills, like every 3 secs or some such.
Hook something & when you pull your net, hit the button to start. Land the fish. Unhook it and present it broadside in the net for a click. Then let the fish go and hit the button to turn it off.
Just a story tho
I never catch anything

Taking fish pics while solo..
Oh, I’m well aware of the techniques, but I’m finding the tea kettle impossible while solo, or getting a good pic of my gaze...

Sounds like you need to get a GoPro mount -- get the chesty or a strap for your head. Then you just hit record as soon as you start reeling in the fish.

Nice Meadow...here’s a few of my solos..and they were friggin 5 years ago! I quit trying pretty much...yes, I know the Brookie laying on the rocks is an abomination, but he ended up there (gently) and I snapped a pic.
Only reason I even took pics, is because I was stunned that I’d stumbled upon this stream.

I was thinking about this, and I actually looked for one of my old cameras, as it reminded me that I'll prolly dunk my phoneeventually. Anyway, why not just do the net photo:
Fish is calm, in the water, etc.
I also use my gopro on my head, but just take a still from the video. This is cropped like crazy, and sent as a text msg, and still looks OK. If I keep them uncropped they're really clean. Plus you can do the underwater stuff, etc.
Well maybe I'm the faggot America

My greatest fear is that after I die, my wife will sell my gear for what I told her I paid for it.

I fish with a dslr. Use a "pancake" prime lens that has a decent macro. Good for trout sized fish. Not great for salmon.
I net every fish I'm going to photograph so I can keep them happy in the water while I'm fucking with the gear. I like to gently kinda float the fish to the surface for the best photos, this I think makes compelling photos. Its not that I suck at spelling, its that I just don't care

A fish is a fish in my opinion. I prefer to see shots of the river, scenery , birds, rocks, bugs etc.. Fish are cool, but getting outside and actually doing it is the cool part in my opinion.
