Ski selection help - trying to move on from S series.
Been trying to find the "proper" ski for about a year now. I like the playfulness and lightweight of the Rossi S series skis, but would rather go in a different direction.
I've been looking at Black Crows, 4FRNT, and a few other brands. Overwhelmed to say the least. Hopefully I can get a little help from you folks. Yes, I've read about 200 different reviews on a bazillion skis. It's just difficult because you can't demo some of the aforementioned brands in my area.
(BTW I am primarily an east coast skier)
5'10 180
What I want:
Underfoot around 100
Something light and fun, not sure about twin tip
Wood core, only a little metal.
Not a fast skier, more technical and primarily stick to bumps/glades
A ski that has the ability to ski garbage from time to time (east coast ice)
Something that skis similar to the Sky/Soul series but better.Last edited by Pauldotcom; 02-06-2019 at 03:30 PM.

MSP99 is a bit heavy in the spec sheet for my liking. As I said, I like a light, “poppy” ski.

Elan Ripstick 106 or 96 may fit the bill. They are pretty light, and have a good bit of pop to them. They are also directional, and, at least in my opinion have the ability to ski through some garbage. For the bumps and glades and what you want to do, I would think the 96 would fit the bill pretty well. I have friends who have gone from the Soul 7 to a pair of ripsticks and been happy with the improvement. Not sure where on the East Coast you are but I would think that finding somewhere to demo ripsticks would be doable.

Black Crows Daemon, buddy has it and can’t say enough good about it. He skis exactly like you describe.

To be honest, I'm not sure what I want! lol
4FRNT MSP99 does look pretty cool.... I think I like the specs on them better than the J because of the rear tail.
The Rustlers do look interesting. I used the Rustler 9 this past weekend and felt they were very quick in the glades. They were a bit short for me (172 my friends skis) so it was tough to tell without much ski... Maybe I will try and demo some 10's this weekend. Thanks for the suggestion.

4FRNT Vandal for the win? I think I might go with it.. After a long talk with the folks at 4FRNT, seems like it might be what I've been looking for.
I searched for a review around here but couldn't find one.. Anyone have experience with it? The only thing I'm slightly not sold on is the twin tip...

Move on from the S series!? MOVE ON?!?! My man you already have the absolute pinnacle of ski design and performance! There is nothing else on the market that can match the blend of sophistication and raw power that the Soul7 brings to the table!
It's because you're tired of having to beat the pussy off you with a stick, isn't it? I get it, the attention that a man rocking a set of Soul7s can attract can be just too much to handle! If so, I suggest just painting your skis so the cougs can't tell what they are. No sense in downgrading to a lesser ski, which any other option most surely would be!

I think you want a Renegade. This year's Bastard model is specifically designed to be an upgraded Soul 7 by Hoji.

That's a sweet looking ski; but a bit wide for an east coast daily driver.
Why do I want lighter skis? --- I can only go by what I've skied. I really did not care of the Enforcer 100. It was heavier than what I've skied for quite some time (S3) but most of all -too stiff and boring. It can certainly rip - no question about it. I didn't find it's speed limit. Too stiff in the trees, and turning wasn't quick enough for the glades up here either.
The S3 was, is, still my favorite ski for what I do. But, I'm looking for something that can handle on piste better because, as many of you know, in the east conditions can change hourly. I'd like to retire the S3 to a tour binding.
