I'll just say we are currently filming an interview series with all three authors that will help answer a lot of these questions. That being said, a lot of the balance of lines in the book being between the ultra gnar and roadside softy is based upon the balance within the book, "The Fifty Classic Climbs of North America." That being said, I personally think that the reason there are ultra gnar lines that have been skied by less than a handful of people is because the top of the sport dream about them in a way that makes them a classic. Few people ski Messner, but I dreamed about it because of it's challenge and when I skied it, it was one of the top 10 runs of my life. Instantly it's a classic in my own head that I'll never forget. Do I personally secretly wish Robson, University and St. Elias weren't in the book, fuck yeah, this project would be in the bag without them. Am I scared, challenged and need to get lucky to climb and ski them, definitely. Will they become an iconic line in my life, fuck yeah. University has kept me up at night for two years, if I do end up skiing it, it will be a lifetime classic.

Lets get this thread back on track:
South face of Denali. Everybody I know goes to Denali to ski Messner (me included). Conditions and fear tend to shut those plans down reliably. Nobody goes to ski Fransson's S. Face route. Makes Robson look pretty casual...
I've heard very good things about the Sultana ski descent... Seems like that could be classic worthy except for that pesky ridge connecting to Crosson.

I would like to make a request for the release of the full footage of you skiing the Messner. I know its probably not that exciting but for those of us that have stared at it in person as well as dreamed about skiing it, it would be fun to see you negotiate the crux and seracs at the bottom of the line.
Are you planning to ski University from the top? that would make it a first descent I believe...

I love how easy it is to troll TGRer, after 20 years you'd think someone would wise up.
Cody if you do ski St. Elias it will rank you among the best/luckiest ski mountaineers in history as it is the ultimate line in the world. Hence less than 5 people have done it. I have spent many an evening staring at the west face thinking about it. Go for the Yakutat triple header, steelhead, surfing and st elias. Its not that I suck at spelling, its that I just don't care

That was very cool. The next post features Hjertaas skiing the Aemmer on S7s, the pinnacle of ski design.

It read like that team on university had an awesome weather window!
I remember brad saying that the unexpectedly important piece of equipment they brought was a tennis ball. They would take breaks outside on their consistent tent bound storm days and toss it to each other. The contrast in color was important in the whiteout world.

Nothing says PNW/AK Classic like a front row Freddy's! That's a beaut!
Speaking of the 50 (go CODY!) I think about 15 guys skied the Landry in the first week of April. It was open season in the Elks with amazing coverage and great weather combined, but now another storm has closed the curtain for a bit. For many a lifetime goal and for a friend of mine, something he's "happy to have behind him - it was spooky!"

That’s a good pic. You can see the lines I’ve skiied around the arete to the left from the big face.
But Ellen kicks ass - if she had a beard it would be much more haggard. -Jer
