J Ski The Metal or similar rocker 106mm with metal?

Got a set of bindings looking for a home.

4 skis currently in the quiver, am looking for a 105-108mm ski with the following characteristics:

    ~180cm -181 cm (5'7" skier)
    ~106-108 mm waist
~Full rocker or flat or very minimal camber (<3mm)?
    ~Metal inside
    ~shorter turn radius

Devs measure short, ski short, and have a fairly progressive mount point, so I wouldn't worry too much about 4 cm. I dig the Wolf and Lone Pine graphics too, but haven't skied the Js yet.

The 184 dev measures 181.5 cm straight tape pull. At least my pair of this years did and they haven’t changed anything about them.

We're the same size and seem to have similar taste in skis. I'm also looking for something with the characteristics you listed. Currently the Kastle BMX 105 (181cm) occupies this slot in the quiver, but they don't offer much in the way of pop/playfulness.

A couple of other skis to think about:

    - Nordica Enforcer 110 (but might be stuck between sizes, 177 vs. 185)
    - Those new K2 Mindbender 108s

J Ski The Metal or similar rocker 106mm with metal?

    Thx for suggestions.

    Current quiver:
    ———————
    181 Icelantic Nomad 115
    181 4FRNT Inthayne (rocker)
    181 Icelantic Nomad 105
    176 4FRNT MSP 99 (metal)

Definitely want rocker in a 105mm-108mm waist. I love rocker.

Meridian 107 in a 181 is a possibility. But no metal.

Kartel 181 similar to the Nomad 105 I think (Nomad has minimal 2mm camber). Plus it’s really a 184 ( on a relative basis). And no rocker. Or metal.

Skied 184 Devs. They are 3 cm too long. I could tell. Haha.

Mindbender 108Ti, MSP 107 and Commander 108 have metal and camber. Ideally I want full rocker for this ski (or minimal camber).

    First world problem I know.

Gotcha! FWIW, the Metal has a few mm of camber (according to Blister).

Folsom Primary SRC meets most of your criteria, but I'm not sure if there's metal in the construction...

Allright, how about the latest iteration of Black Crows Corvus then?

I’ll throw in another vote for k108. Super fun ski. Love my 181’s. But on the metal front, if you can somehow find a second hand pair of some Scott P4s, ( and Ill-Advised or myself don’t beat you to it ) they meet a lot of your criteria.

I just did a straight pull on my 184 Devastators and they are 181.6. Maybe they feel like 184's to you, but they are not. Blister has the measured length as 181.8.

J Ski The Metal or similar rocker 106mm with metal?

    BC Atris = camber schmamber
    MSP 107 = same

    Want rocker.

Black Crows Corvus = metal + rocker + 107mm waist + 21m turn radius = nice one! Will check the Corvus out.

    hmmmm......Corvus 176cm or 183cm...grrr?

Will drag my 181 Nomads in to lay beside them in the local shop.

Also just read the comment about Blister saying The Metals have camber.....and then re-read the J Skis The Metal specs that show camber?? WTF?

Website says this: "Unlike other rockered skis ("makes me think rockered???"), we carefully match our rocker geometry with our sidecut geometry (I'm thinking rockered Hoji or Ren or Meridian which all match rocker to sidecut"). To accomplish this perfect match, we blend multiple size radii into one smooth parabolic curve from the end of the camber ("WTF? now makes me think these f'ers are cambered!!") to the very tip, like a surfboard. This creates a much smoother tip shape that has no abrupt kinks, flat spots or awkward changes for the best of both worlds! The rockered tips effortlessly surf and float in powder, while the edge length in contact with snow is dramatically increased to improve grip and reduce tip chatter and bounce. You won’t believe how precise and effortless your skis feel from the hard pack to the pow!"

But the website shows this pic:....so now I think the have camber underfoot....who knew?! Dang!

The Metal has camber. On skis with tip and tail rocker, I like it. On skis with long running length, I like flat camber.

    ^^ agreed

Sorry I thought the Metal was rockered.

Cause of the confusing “4FRNT-like” rockerish wording in the J Ski website about the Metal?...”carefully match our rocker geometry with sidecut geometry”....had me thinking these were 180 Devs.

Most skis are "rockered" these days. You really need to use "full rocker" in describing what you want and looking through specs. All companies that use tip/tail rocker will describe their skis as rockered, because they are.

Obviously, you know what you want more than me, but I think you might be splitting hairs a bit with fully rockered vs tip/tail rocker and very small camber under foot. A good example: my Billy Goats (minimal camber under foot) are way way looser than my Cochise were (full rocker). The BGs have way more splay in their rocker tip and tail and thus a shorter real life running length while flat. The Cochise while fully rockered, didn't have much splay so skied quite long and more locked in by comparison. Same goes for length. Every ski is designed different and will ski shorter or longer based on way more than just length total straight pull length.

So it really depends on what you're looking for the ski to do more than just a list of specs. All that said, the Corvus fits your description to a T. Don't skip a ski that hits all your other requirements just because it's a few CMs longer or shorter than your stated magic number.

    Armada ARV 106 ti?

180cm, 106mm wide, 2 sheets of metal, 20.5m turn radius. Basically an ARV 106 with 2 layers of metal.

As mtskibum points out -- you're not using rockered in a way consistent with industry terminology. Any ski that has rocker is "rockered". A much smaller subset are "full rocker".

How you match your rocker line and splay with sidecut geometery is important -- which is why J Skis points that out. It doesn't mean those things match in radius, just that they match what works together. The matching rocker to sidecut with the same arcs is a pretty niche thing.

I know most skis have rockered tip and tail....with camber underfoot. eg moustache rocker.

Ya I was lax in my reading the J Ski website. Didn’t think they would reference “rocker matching side cut” for a moustache rocker profile (rocker/camber/rocker), as I had thought that rocker matching sidecut was only used on descriptions of full rocker skis like 4FRNT Rens, Hojis.

    Hence my confusion....thx!

Well damn. Had bindings sitting around. Had some money in my Paypal account. I bought some J Skis the Metal.

Will report back when I ski them.

Dope. Add a review to the review thread I started also.

    P.S. those are beautiful

edit: this thread at one point was discussing zero-camber / full-rocker skis. My Metals have virtually no camber (maybe 1mm when back to back)
