Salomon Q 98: messin' with my chi
this is my 3rd season on these and i have a challenge:
the steeper the terrain, the more my edges chatter,
especially the uphill ski
just cant seem to keep those fuckers locked down.
things are great arcing fast GS turns on mellow runs
i DO slow down on steeper terrain and make shorter turns.
maybe thats the issue?
im not well-versed in ski physics
Tecnica boots; 100
only pair of skis ive experienced this phenom

Yup new ski. Solly kind of fucked that design, more the build. Not a ski dentist/designer but never clicked with it and several other buddies said the same.

If I remember correctly Salomon pulled material out of the tips of those skis to make them lighter. It worked, but you got a less damp ski that was way more chatter prone. I also wasn't a fan, though I'd be interested in trying some of there newer stuff to see if they have improved any

Yup lightened up the ski and in an attempt to add stiffness made a more burley sidewall which makes the ski behave weird. Also the sidewall will fail when pushed hard. A buddy of mine is on his third pair.

im in the market to replace them:
blizz. bushwackers
enforcer 93 (too much dentist?)
give salomon another try?
.
i like a ski that allows me to run
auto-pilot most of the day,
enjoy the scenery.
big rossi fan (thats IT!)
.
then get focused and ski
steep, firm terrain at my limit
for as long as i can
.
then back to auto-pilot

Enforcer 93 is a pretty stout ski, especially if you move the mount point back. My guess is the reason for your chatter has nothing to do with the ski and everything to do with how you ski.
Curious why do you turn?

Trying to force a ski into a shorter turn radius on firm snow will make it chatter.
Sounds like you need Raxskis.

try this.
pick the path that is the speed you want to ski, and ski it as fast as possible. Doesnt mean go fast, doesnt mean go slow, but when people try to "slow down" it typically cause their skis to chatter as they push and skid, over edging, gliding and subtle steering movements.

IMO, they kind of sucked. I owned the Sentenial, two pairs. Great charger ski but had delam issues. They got warrantied for a Shogun. Also liked those but being a cap skied they had durability issues too. Warranty turned I to q98. I can get used to just about any ski but these were just wrong. For some reason I could not bend them into a smooth arc. Almost Soured me on salomon skis, but got a q lab and my faith was restored. I say ditch em.

follow-up question:
i noticed the heel piece of my bindings, rossi FKS
felt a little loose. i went to tighten down the screws
and was surprised to find half the holes had stripped out.
the shop that mounts my gear is top notch, so,
another flaw in this ski or,
did the shop fuck up,
or both?

"enjoy the scenery" (insert acronym for OP's handle here)
The scenery is what you are shredding next, not poking around like some lost IKON goober.
