Doubt I'm getting dusty this year but I caught the dj itch at the dusty booty ranch (930 and B) last year and somehow it's going pretty well. Give a listen if ya like

We went out for 4th of Juplaya and promptly sank the rv (aka The Janky Warrior) in deep, deep way the fuck out there fucking playa, said fuck it and DJ Gaper played and we danced all night, shooting off fireworks when the cops left at 2:30 . In the morning, an angel appeared with a shovel, saying everyone on the playa was wondering what the fuck was going on out there all night. You can see the lights back around 10 o'clock on the grid behind the angel.

splat do you camp with a big crew of people or a smaller group? Our camp is usually 65ish people but this year its going to be a shit show because two of the members are getting married and invited a shit ton of people who've never been to the burn before. Unfortunately the kiddo turns 1 right before the burn starts so we're taking a year off but hoping to bring the kiddo next year.

I float and just land in a camp somewhere every year.
Been in camps from 5 to 10 to 20 to 30 or more, from Esplanade to the outer rim on L.
But l like smaller camps away from plug and plays.

Freeballer is the word I use. What's cool is meeting people and getting invited to camp with them a year later and it's as bonding as the maggots summits, etc. Quite similar at many levels, actually. What once was the vagaburner status quo way of the burn has evolved to become a city in and of itself with class distinctions as silicon valley ownerizes a big chunk of real estate on the playa and billionaires build luxury condos for the week with two servants per person in camps of luxury. It's a vacation for everyone and it really is a social networking event, too. I think people enjoy it to whatever level they can afford and that's cool.
I was just reading a bunch of the articles on an NYT page that were written over the years about the burn.

Hopefully, you don't get paywalled on the links.
