I went to Burning Seed in Australia in September on the tail end of a work trip. I have a buddy from high school who lives in Sydney that I meet up with every time I'm in Australia who is a part of a well established camp crew. He had always told me I had to come if the timing aligned with one of my work trips. It was my first burn.

The crew was awesome (Splash- we provided shower parties) and was incredibly tight knit. It was so awesome to be welcomed so openly by an already close group of people. The crew consisted of a good mix of about 30 people from professional circus performers to business peeps and a couple students and grad students. Probably half were Aussies, a couple were Kiwis and the rest were immigrants from Europe and Canada. My buddy and I were the only Americans. Interestingly, we may have been the only Americans at Seed.

Burning seed is about 5,000 people Western NSW where sheep paddocks start to give way to the red desert. There are about 50-60 camp crews and like Burning Man the parties go all day and all night. At peak times there are probably 30+ DJs and performances happening at once and at low times (4AM) there are still probably 10+ DJs performing somewhere. People say the Burning Seed economy is like the Burning Man economy was 20+ years ago. There is no barter system, everthing is given out free and all parties are open to everyone. There is an incredible amount of food and drinks provided most of the day every day by different camp crews.






The Aussies certainly know how to party. Not sure what to think of Burning Man (maybe too big with too many cops) but burning seed was a perfect size. With 5K people there are enough new people to meet, and being a part of a 30 person crew means that I was constantly running into people that I knew while out on the paddock (playa) to go off and adventure with.

I cannot believe there are already 11 thread pages on this for 2020.

I went to Tahoe the same weekend as that started last year and there lines waiting on transportation from the airport 300 feet long and 5 people deep.

All I could think looking at those in line is I am glad those people are going the opposite way I am, if they were going to Tahoe; I would not be; which I am sure is validation for most of the board that burning man is the place to go.

Our plans are up in the air this year. This is Lego's year to head to the desert, but we are talking about attending Critical NW instead with the kid. However, a few friends are talking about going to BRC with their kids, and so we are tempted. We would need an RV though. It would be awesome to find an RV to share with another family. We shall see.

Doesn't that make you feel the burn? That skitso squirrel all day and night?

Isn't it also nice when you can hold and zone in on one set? Of course, but doesn't it take the art in all of us PEOPLE for us to wander like mad-persons and focus on PEOPLE? Outside of our normal focal length. Connections. Focusing the eye, the soul, from the impulse to the narrow, random, person; right there in front of you at all times, different, but immediate.

And that looking outside of ourselves is what it's all about, for me at least.

This is a good thing, opening eyes, and perspectives.
