    What ski for Snowbird Thurs-Sat

    Utah mags — Leaving tomorrow night, need to bring one of two pairs out. In bounds, no wild chutes, just the usual fun Mineral and Road to Provo stuff, plus what’s left on sides of trails. Choice is a 98 waist great DD that is dialed in, can deal with chop and handle boot high with ease, the other is a 114 that is really surfy and fun in pow, but is tough in chop. Having seen what happens to Mineral within a couple hours of a rope drop, my head is telling me to take the 98, and just hunt for some stashes.

    If your pow ski isn't good in chop, bring the 98. Last couple storms have packed a lot of moisture and chop will be abound by Thurs.

    I'd go with the skinniest skies you have. That way when you show up, it will either be the right ski, or you won't be pissed because there's 3 feet of blower pow, and you still won't have any issues skiing it, because, well, you know, it IS the GrEaTesT Snow ON Earth!

    Bring the 98s if they ski chop well, as mentioned. In my 12 years at Alta I enjoyed my 105 - 108 waisted skis most, even on the deepest days. Better to be in it that on it IMHO. If it's really really deep go rent something if you really need to. Remember a lot of us skied deep pow on straight 200cm rails for a long time. You'll be fine.
