Keystone: Trees Galore
Recently got a chance to ski Keystone on a Sunday, had a great experience. Surprised I haven't heard more about this mountain before.
Left Boulder bright in early. i70 traffic was hell, as expected. Witnessed the aftermath of two separate car accidents. Made it to Keystone in about 3 hours. Got suited and booted, bought tickets, and made it on the lift by 10ish.
Although there seemed to be a lot of people there, it never felt crowded. No waiting on lifts. Big wide groomers, flanked by dense trees. It was a beautiful bluebird day too, mid 30's, bright sun. Had to shed layers form the onset. Great snow too even though there hadn't been a storm in several days.
For me, the glades were the highlight. What I liked was that you could start at the top of the mountain and ski in the trees almost the entire way to the base. Like 15-20 min laps all trees. Amazing. It's not often that I come across such extensive trees. There were steep parts, but mostly more mellow pitches, which I prefer.
After lunch, it seemed like the entire place had cleared out. Several times I found myself alone on a broad groomer. Virtually no waiting in line for lifts either. Plenty of varied terrain from what I experienced.
I only spent 8 hours there, 7 skiing and 1 at lunch so I'm sure there is a lot I missed. Regardless, I'll definitely be going back for a longer stay.

You went sunday... and you say they haven't had a storm in several days when Saturday was one of the better pow days for many of the summit county ski areas...

Sweet please focus your report on the drive up and down the canyon, the parking and the lift lines. That’s the part of Utah skiing we love the best.
