2019 maggot fish gazing and shit talking
Had a little trip to the kispiox
Played with some fishes
Need to work on my foto skills- I am trying to take a pic and release them without touching em. According to a fish bio I met - this increases reproductive success (fishes that is - does nothing for me)
Bonked one for the smoker. This one will not be making babies this year.
The kispiox coho aren’t a match for the Bulkley variety - but the stealies more than make up for it.Last edited by LHutz Esq; 09-24-2019 at 09:12 PM.

My new fishing buddy in training and a shitty out of focus cutty pic. Managed way too many fish and way too much sunshine on a fall day that was just meant to be a puppy training mission. Prob still be out there if I wouldve remembered whiskey and weed.(dont worry I still had beer).

Thanks man, I need to make one of these wydaho meet ups. I've got a boat but moved a bit further north from Harry.
Funny thing was, that on top of a great day out, I had a guy pull into the pullout as I was rigging up and ask if it was cool if he fished the section with me. I haven't had people have any fishing etiquette in so long that it was super refreshing.(was fishing a quite popular creek in montana that sees a ton of out of state pressure)

Important topic, something to think about.

While we are talking PFD's....
I have always been kind of a party boat guy, t-shirt & flip flops most of the time, waders if appropriate, but I never thought much about wearing a PFD in the boat. Last month I was watching Kokomas getting ready and I noticed he had a cool fishing Pfd, lots of pockets just like a fishing vest. I was thinking to myself "that is a smart idea, it would be impossible to swim with waders on.."
After watching that video of sfb's unplanned swim, I am going to start wearing a pfd all the time.

Interesting to know how he flipped the raft. Glad nothing really came of it other than cold and wet.
Harry, it’s actually not a big deal to swim in breathables. Keep the belt on and snug. I only adorn the pfd if the rapids get spicy, like in the video above.

I had a fishing buddy drown in high volume class I. He was a lifetime guide with 25 years of experience.
That experience didn't help because when his drift boat flipped, he was in the cockpit and he got clobbered by the high side as it rolled over with significant force. He wasn't wearing a pfd. Something to think about. In high volume rivers, you can easily get killed without "spicy" rapids. The Snake and SF kill unintentional swimmers on a regular basis. When it's pumping over 10,000cfs, the South Fork has flat water eddy lines that can jerk an oar out of your hand. They'll suck down any swimmer without a pfd. At high volume, if a swimmer can't get to the off-current bank, basically, they are fucked. I don't care how awesome anyone thinks they can swim in wading boots, if you get pulled into a compression current without a pfd, you will most likely die.

No way I would get anywhere close to that. That thing is nasty! In high water it has a whirlpool the size of a VW bug. I dont wear PFD's unless it gets spicy, but yeah as Neckdeep said you get into one of those on waders no way you are getting out, in fact I dont think you could get out even if you werent wearing waders.

Yeah, that's one of the worst. What a lousy place for a swimming hole. Not just that death trap; that water coming over the falls is, more or less, liquid cow shit.
But, it's not just those powerhouse eddylines. A swimmer caught on the outside corner of just about any bend in that river is going to have a very hard time self-rescuing when it's at summer flow.

Sorry about your buddy. Guess I should have said spicy water as I know hydraulics are killers.
I’ll wear mine when I feel it’s necessary or if I’m in someone’s boat and they ask me too. Their boat their rules.

I was fucking impressed with that one. I spent most of my life in the ocean surfing and have had to swim many times with no pfd and no worries. Getting dunked on the outside bend with no PFD on the SF would be challenging in baggies let alone waders breathable or not. I have turned around at the trailhead because I left my beeper at home. Good points to ponder.
