I love how all the episodes are so different.
Came away from watching the last one with a huge smile on my face for the rest of the day. Encapsulates all that is great about skiing with friends.

I just want to second this. I enjoyed watching you go over lines in Google Earth, and I'd have a ton of interest in the preparatory work you put in—avy conditions, timing, route finding plans, etc. Maybe it's my niche interest, but I think showing how much preparation goes into this would be educational and impressive.

Usually the episodes kick off at the trailhead. The process of deciding what size weather window is good enough, putting together partners, etc., would be an interesting angle.

    If Cody started a Patreon,
    say "Skiing with soul",
    focused on backcountry pursuits,
with a social conscience (stuff not made in sweatshops and/or at least country-of-origin identified),
with an environmental conscience (stuff made with more 'natural' materials and/or environmental impact identified),
    well,
I would pay a monthly stipend on Patreon to see that.

    Crazy eh!
Imagine skiing that cuts through the commercialism that I and so many others are caught up in,
that recognizes the privilege that we all have,
to wear and use various manufactured goods,
and brings it to the level of environmental conscience.

    This would be revolutionary.
You might not get the usual sponsors (or you might),
but I would gladly pay to see that.

    It is just an idea,
a rough sketch of what I see would be something
I'd like to see Cody pursue after the 50.

    Throwing it out there.

Just watch out that Cody doesn't eat gondola cables. He could totally do that and then you'd have to come up if a post scientific explanation for it. Maybe aliens caused a massive wind spike with their dark matter windmill near Squamish.

And cody: anything that pg deems a good idea I'd give a wide berth.

Thanks man, that's definitely a huge huge goal of mine. To tell a vast variety of stories. To show as many of the different types of days and experiences we have in the mountains. For instance, we could've played up the fact that Shasta is a long, high vert slog of a day to get to the top. But what stood out to me was just how much fun we were having as a big group of friends. So let's tell that story. The slog stories will be aplenty.

TGR is known for producing action-sports films with environmental messages.
What the skiing industry is not known for is social and economic messages.
The marketing bulls eye is now for the generation seeking meaning, and seeking justice, and seeking more than just experiences.
The future is in making what we do more conscious.

It is just an idea, and if some big names embrace this,
    it can change the industry,
even if it is just acknowledging the theme,
a la land acknowledgements recognizing activity on traditional First Nations/Indian lands.

Also for example, A la Greg Hill and his electric car exploits.

Cody, how much of the “story” do you typically have planned before filming each attempt? Do you go in having an idea of what you want to focus on, or do you just try to film as much of everything as possible, then decide based on footage afterwards?

Another pro has a whole thread dedicated to bashing her because she was pushing a message...bashed for being self serving and disingenuous.
While it smacked of misogyny, there were plenty of comments by the posters pretending it was about faux environmentalism.

Cody has a nice vibe going without getting preachy.

Little bit of both. I try to focus on one story in pre-production planning based off the line, the people and what I think may happen. I'd say 75% of the time, the story goes as predicted. But then of course, I have to leave it open in case shit changes like on Joffre, Curry and Pyramid. Also, sometimes I come up with something or a theme and then just go full bore to make that happen...i.e. Spearhead Traverse, Mt. Tuk, Shasta.

Little off topic. Alka do you mount your QST106s on the line? Have really enjoyed the QST 118 which has a very forward mount. 106 more traditional. Curious as to your take?

Yeah, more traditional mount for sure on the 106's. But that depends on what model. The new light army green ones that came out this fall can get a more forward mount because there is increased tail rocker. I go 2cm forward on the new 106's and on the line for the older 106's.

^^Informative video. Some good suggestions in there for any kind of backcountry travel.

Finally had a chance to catch up on this series. Consistently excellent work. Looking forward to more videos when conditions allow.

One of my favorite features of the mammut packs is the rear entry zippers allow light through so when you go in through the top you can see what you're grabbing

Great episode. Platypus will never sponsor you now.

I have never heard those called "heli straps", everyone calls them Voile straps.

Mostly my kit is similar. I need a better first aid kit, though.

I do have a Leatherman multi tool at all times. I also always have an emergency blanket/bivy. Also, in addition to a couple of voile straps, I have a few heavy duty zip ties. Invaluable item to have at all times, takes up no space.

Me too. Also kinda funny, I gave up on camelback bags cuz they'd leak, and switched to platypus and my wife and I have no probs over 2 seasons. We have a DSM unit, but it's heavier, not clear, yada yada... So much of this shit is going out a lot and figuring what works. Like I carry a spare small pole basket, some duct tape and a chunk of cord, cuz I've used those over the years.

Hey Cody and Bjarne! Saw you guys driving out from travertine hot springs today. Think I saw the big van on our way out but figured it’d be weird to say hello in real life...
We skied Matterhorn today (snow was crap, turned around at the base of the summit couloir). Hit buckeye hs last night before the ski, liked that more than travertine. Did you guys find any decent snow?
Love the video series and project. I was telling my buddy about it on our hike up, so funny to see you later today. I got my wife hooked on it, we watch all of them together. Sweet Ranger!

I was thinking the same thing. Apparently (post-googling): that's Dakine's name for their "straps"

Cody, if you need a side trip I know of a trio of couloirs in the Alpental valley that are pretty much the most sought-after in the greater Seattle touring community. If you time it right, all three are filled-in and you can tick them off in a day as they drain into the same basin. I'm sure a lot of mags would get a kick out of seeing ya hit the Slot, the Snot & the Crooked on a good day
