Anders Parker/Varnaline/Space Needle...
Back in December a notice popped up on my FB thread that Anders Parker was undertaking a "Living Room Concert" Tour in 2019.
Surprisingly, Reno (the closest "big" city to me) was on the schedule.
So I bought a ticket. It was only $20 and the attendance was capped at 31 people.
Now I hadn't seen (or really followed) Anders in almost 25 years. His first outfit, Varnaline, was one of my favorite mid-90s alt bands. Their debut album, Man of Sin, is a bonafide classic that takes obvious (but tweaked) influence from Neil Young & Crazy Horse's Rust era.
But Anders has been plugging along with a stories solo career since he put Varnaline to rest.
At any rate, It was pretty frickin' cool to sit in a camp chair in some dude's living room, right next to the musician. It was even cooler that virtually none of the 20 people in attendance brought out a cellphone or talked (okay, one guy talked right in the middle of a song, but that's pretty good odds for such a small show).
It was also super cool to see Anders live after more than 25 years.
If you ain't familiar with the man and his music, check it out:
