Fritschi Xenic - 280g claimed weight tech binding

It's so "un" Fritschi-like.

I checked my Plum Guides. They have them.

My BD Helio 200s (ATK Haute Route) don't.

I thought it was a tech binding, defacto standard.

I waivered then couldnt stop thinking about them. Been looking for a pair for soo long i figure i better suck it up or it will torment me. Was thinking of putting xenics on them but that sport conrad deal on the atk's makes more sense for them i think

seem to recall the snow cleaning pin grooves are a dynafit patent.
not sure how it explains the plum guides - maybe they paid a license?

Xenic and Tecton toe mounts with inserts... additional holes but pin position is exactly the same for the two bindings. Heel tracks left mounted with wood screws in the ski, should be able the use the worm screw track for either heel piece as desired.

I was thinking this was a Dynafit patent too, but can't confirm. Interesting about the Plums...

Update on my broken toepiece, BD sent me a replacement, visually I can't tell a difference but the serial numbers are coded differently, broken one is 110****, new one is R1****. I'm hoping to get out on them by this weekend and will see if the new one is as tough to lock as the original.

I got out for a few laps on the new toe, it was relatively warm (20s F) and both toes engaged with only a mildly-unreasonable amount of force. I couldn't tell the difference between the new and old without looking at the little mark I scored on one of them to differentiate.

I finally actually got the Xenic's on snow... (They were mounted just before shit hit the fan and I'm not a ski town local). Lockout was absolutely brutal to engage, had to pull with both hands - it was in the high 20s out. I'm going to need to figure something out or talk to BD. Crampons work great but have nowhere to attach to a pack for carrying... Any thoughts? Drilling a hole in them for a carabiner frowned upon? Otherwise skied and toured well, no issues getting the boot in or out.

Yeah you'd be fine with a hole (tons of dynafit style crampons have holes in them. But having the cowbells stuck to the outside of your pack isn't a good look :P

Did you ever try to push down slightly on the tab that says “ski” in the gap in the lever while pulling up on the lever? This solved the problem for me.

I think its like the handle on a hammer that does not need a license agreement

if you see a skier move the boot/tech binding/ski back and forth a few times before clicking down the heel
they know what snow cleaning grooves are and use them

IME most tech users don't know snow cleaning grooves exist/ don't use them

I did try this right after posting actually. I threw one toe in the freezer and the other left out. It was still harder than the warm one but definitely made it doable. Will keep in mind next tour.

A ski binding will be affected by cold but mostly it will be lubricated by snow and or water

I don't believe so. I warrantied mine last month and they suggested I swap to the Helio because any replacement would have the same issue. I took the credit and am already happier with the Helio's just on the workbench.

Bummer, I'm in the market for a 300g bindings and the sale pricing for the Xenics is tempting. Too bad there's so many issues.
