I like the tie break - watching guys pummel each other till one falls down is not entertaining for me

Joker and fed played incredibly high level tennis to the end

That was an amazing final and fed is fucking amazing

Was this the first time that Wimbledon has ended in a tiebreaker?

Yep, it's the first year they've had the 12:12 5th set tiebreak rule.

Great Spirit bless you MT for feeling a little of my pain. I don't know the guy, nor do I remember ever interacting with him before, but what a door knob.

Some thoughts about Rog's loss. So he has 2 match points on serve. 2 chances to ace or hit a service winner, or get an easy service return for a winner for the match.

He doesn't, and now in the all time slam race it's Rog 20, Rafa 18, Djoko 16. He wins and it's:
    Rog 21, Rafa 18, Djoko 15.

Rog is 38 (in Aug), Rafa 33, Djoko 32. It would seem that if Rog would have won at Wimbledon (made either of those 2 points) his chances of staying ahead of both Djoko and Rafa would have been much better, and his claim to GOAT would be much stronger (most number of slams is certainly one measure of this).

Players play longer now (better diets, training, coaching, etc) so it's quite conceivable that Djoko and Rafa have another 2 - 5 years left. That suggests they each may have 8 - 20 chances to get another 3 (for Rafa) and 5 (for Djoko) slams to move ahead of Rog (should he not win another).

So with all of the above bullshit theoretical crap taken in to account, could one missed point deny Roger's possible future GOAT status?

I told Mrs Jong that Djokavic probably just made the shot of the match with that dive rally in the 5th. But Federor came back strong until the very end... when he seemed to just be out of gas. Fed's totally GOAT in my very layman's opinion. I haven't watched much tennis this century though. Was more in to it in the 80s and early 90s.

OK Rubes. Listen up. (and don't go all mental, just fkn around). This is just about the most thorough summary of the match i've seen (found by ms mt ). Maybe a a little bit too much for the novice, but if you follow at all, an EXCELLENT analysis of why Novak won.

    https://www.theringer.com/2019/7/14/...don-final-2019

"So if you’ve just sat through a thrilling, punishing, five-hour meat grinder of a final...and watched the player you love have his heart torn out on the ESPN live feed, you might not be in the mood to read about the ferocious mental toughness of the player who beat him. This is, in essence, the whole tragedy of Djokovic. He arrived either a little too early or a little too late in the Federer-Nadal screenplay—too late to seem like an equal partner in the story, too early for the story to have ended without him—and as a result has always felt weirdly extraneous, even as he’s won 16 majors and been the best player in the world for most of the last 10 years."

This evening, at the kickoff of the oldest tennis tournament in the US (played in original city - Cincy 1899), I get the following text from my kid sis, who, since her youth to being a collegiate player, to her years in NYC, always, always, finds her way to somehow rub elbows with the stars:

“Eating Graeters with Grigor Dimitrov and Andy Murray”

    Well done, sis. Well done.

Wow! If I was 20 years younger, handsome, smart or talented I'd say set me up BMS. Very cool.

And, while I'm here anyway, congrats Andreescu! The Canadian is a good title to own, and nice shot up the ranks for Bianca.

It was hilarious because he’s such a volatile jerkoff. Only reason I didn’t link it here was because I refuse to share 20 second ESPN clips preceded by 30 second ads.

    US Open is rolling.

No real upsets so far other than Kerber losing in three sets.

Sharapova vs Serena in round one in 15 minutes or so.

Serena was hitting her ground strokes as hard as the guys. That was impressive.

Fed's serve let him down in the 1st, and Nagal has some speed for sure.

That said, the ship appears to be righted.
