40` and sleety are a good combo, just had to unzip a bit on the climb to stay relatively sweat free.

Oh yes. It was kind of a cyclocross ride with all the dismounts and tree-hops.

People who can't ride on leaves are the same people spinning off the road the first time it snows.

I actually love leaves, as long as they arent hiding guide stones I then smash my pedals into.

Oak leaves are crazy though if you dont have a tire to break though them.

I have no problem with leaves and have been an outspoken opponent of leaf blowing and excessive raking before the blowing. Riding the wet leafy machine built trails yesterday on a drop bar bike proves that.

I expected the worst this weekend between the recent wet weather and downed trees but trails were in damn good shape. Rode Ascutney early Saturday and Millstone Sunday - trails were dry, leafy and only a few big downed trees to go around. Even got some snow flurries on Sunday.

Hoping to play hookey and get a long Cochran's ride in this week or next. Still have a wee bit of bike season left.......

Let me know if you want company, I can show you around the stuff off the back. Sweet techy downhill and then a good climb out.

19 NE - It's all up from here

Ascutney was excellent today, way drier than last week. Took a 2020 demo Fuel EX 9.8 out today. Really liked it. My next bike, for sure.

Got out for maybe the last one this year. Headed north off the Paine Mtn Trail out towards the next bump north to ride the new (almost) finished run down from there including the new sections added this year. LOTS of walking chucking sticks, a good amount of water moving off the mtn still. On the ridge riding north views of the Greens on the left and the Grotons and the Whites on the right. Great views with no leaves but the trail up there is chunky and technical so I couldn't look for too long. The return trip is fun ridge running, mostly down with a few punchy ups. The new sections are riding SO slow, deep leaves, totally un-ridden, soft forest floor. I can't wait for traffic, compaction, and a little tweaking as this run comes to life and starts rolling fast. By the end of next year it should be a fun rip. 1300 verts, maybe 3.5 miles. A pic of the Worcesters from the field, and one up on the Dr. Wag trail of some fun, tech. ledge. I would say snow at GMT. snow to the valleys almost everywhere. Not enough you need fat tires. Rode a normal mtb in 3 inches of cold snow today and it was pretty fun.

Dates haven't been finalized but Carrabassett Valley is going to be the host site for Single Speed USA next year.

Bring your drinking boots and leave your shifters at home.

Well fall didn't last too long up here. I was hoping for some good late season dirt but winter came in fast again this year.

Poked around on the fat bike last night and trails could use some more packing down even through there is only 6ish inches on the ground. Warmer temps today and a hard freeze tomorrow should make for a decent base for fat biking.
