Sierra Tour vs DWT
I emailed Moment about this question, as I ski the DWT and want a lighter, narrower version of it for bigger spring missions, but keeping the general characteristics of the DWT. I was told that the Sierra Tour is quite a bit lighter in flex than the DWT and wouldn’t likely be as equivalent as I wanted it to be, probably owing to being geared towards women, who are usually lighter.
Intriguingly though, I was also told that they are planning on a narrower version of the “men’s” DWT for next season.

Got to demo the Deathwish 104 yesterday at Vail. I...think I liked it?
It was the 184 (longest I could get) and it did feel short (6'2/195lbs ish). 190 would probably be better although I wonder if it would start to feel like a lot of ski behind me with the relatively forward mount point.
Lots of quick turnability, felt nice to carve turns with it, seemed reasonably stable through nasty conditions but not some super damp charger. Easy to release the tails when I wanted to, never really seemed to try to overpower me--which is a trait I've come to appreciate in recent years in my daily driver skis (my highschool racing days are long behind me, and trading metal content for "playfulness" has been fun).
Tough conditions (couple inches of fresh on top of refrozen icy nastiness) combined with my unfamiliarity with Vail's terrain made it a little hard to evaluate for daily driver use at home, but it is staying on the list--I could see being happy with it as the ski I grab 8/10 days any time it it hasn't snowed much, but I'm not quite ready to reach for the carving skis.
While I'm mostly a directional skier, I appreciate a little bit of twin tip on my wider skis, but these seemed to have a lot more than I need (my OG 2017 Rustlers or M-Free 118 tails are more in line with what I want). Anyone ever try chopping off 2cm from the tails?

I’ve trimmed tails of 188 pb and j and 184 Bibby before they had a touring version so they both had flattish tails. Turned out awesome, honestly didn’t notice any difference skiing them though.

Chat in with Max from Moment. He has offered to help guide those looking for no warranty and less tail - typically for touring setups, but they will help guide you

Didn't get on the commander or new ski, but did try the big Wildcat and boy did I not get along with them. Got on em for the first run of the day on 7"+ of fresh snow on headwall... Could not get my balance and felt like the tips were gone dive and send me flying most of the run, even cruising on the groomers with an inch of fresh snow on top was terrifying. Another in my group got on em and was having the same problem. I'm flabbergasted at how poorly that run went. Gonna give it another go tmrw hoping something was off but not a great first impression.

Moment Skis Discussion
Hmm… seems like a mount point issue?
I have run this ski for 3+ seasons, and they are the most intuitive ride I’ve ever come across.
Skied the 118 and 108 versions. I had the 108 mounted back 1cm, and that produced a bit more hesitation in the ski than I wanted.
In comparison, (apples to oranges) I had the non-tour version of the 118 mounted 1.5cm - 2cm forward and hated that.
On the line in the tour layup is a cold dead hands ski for me.

Sick post, no update on the new ski everyone is dying to hear about but instead one bashing one of the most popular Moment skis ever......this should go over well!
JK! I have no idea what you ski like but the tip dive can only be a function of either your mount point on the demo bindings being wayyyy too far forward (doubt it) or that your balance was way off and likely in really deep snow and at slow speeds.
The WC doesn't have the greatest float ever but as long as you ski it the way you should ski a forward mounted freestyle pow ski then it is soooo much fun.

I'll do better today, I promise! I got distracted by falling in love with reverse camber skis and spent the day trying different versions of that out. Now I wanna check out the Meridian!
Also chalking it up to off balance in deep snow at slow speeds. Today is a new day for trying Wildcats (maybe trying them -1), Commanders and new ski (w/ pics).

Ditto to the WC being one of the easiest skis to get along with. I don't find myself needing to think about what the ski is doing - it's just competent at most everything on a soft snow day like the conditions eSock described.
It sounds like maybe the Commander might be a better fit - if someone is worried about sinking the tips on the WC I'd guess they ski pretty far forward and this just isn't that sort of ski until you get up to speed.

Blend of commander and Wildcat feels like an apt description from my time on them. Solid performance all around.
Moment guys said I wasn't the only one having tip dive issues yesterday and chalked it up to the soft, deep snow (and I also suspect the wax job based on how much it slowed down on cat tanks compared to just about every other ski I've been on this week).

Yeah, I suppose I have no REAL reason to trim the tails. The part I'd want to cut off doesn't actually touch snow most of the time or have usable edge. Don't care about losing a pinch of weight and not looking to hook skins to them...not going to change much about how they ski.
At most it would provide a bit more clearance to swing the tails around in tight trees (or around rocks/chutes) and reduce the feeling of having a lot of ski behind me...and that's probably not worth the time and effort (and warranty loss).
Would make it easier to stuff in a gondola ski basket?

That new ski looks awesome. Wildcat rocker lines, commander mount point, flex somewhere in the middle maybe?

Excited to see what Moments are all about. Commander 108s mounted and ready for a week in Utah.

Quick question for all the Commander 118 fanboys. Tried +2 mount and didn't hate it but really didn't like it much. Thinking on the line or -1. Any strongly held, baseless opinions on mount point? I typically like traditional mounts with the 190 Bibby being the notable exception. What say you?

Ordered my WCT 108 today. if using mainly for touring, should i consider moving back 1cm from the factory recommended? Looking for some insights.
I am 6'1, 180lb, intermediate/expert skier living in ice coast but travel to west few times a year.
Thanks!

I’m similar build, went on the line on 184 and 190 and thought both were great at recommended. Suppose it depends on what you want out of them. I like up right stance, tour in light boots usually and like the ski to be very loose. Recommended mount point seems to work for that. 🤷♂️

Do we have more feedback on the Commander Tour? Wondering about how stable they feel compared to other moment touring skis and how edge hold is on firm snow. I’m also curious if I could get away with skiing then with a Skorpius occasionally.
I’m thinking about getting a 182cm length and using it for spring variable objectives where I’m ‘okay’ from a fitness level but don’t want something that skis like shit. I also have some 1300 gram skis but those really leave me wanting on cruddy snow. Thinking of a light binding and being willing to ski them on days with big vert but modest mileage. Looking at objectives like the Middle Teton and North Maroon this spring. In that case they’d probably go on the Middle Teton (it’s mostly just up) and stay at home for the North Maroon trip as that’s a lot of mileage getting to the base.
I’d normally ski a 188cm… but I’m looking to have them be okay in tight spaces and while booting.
Feedback on how people are liking them and using them would be great. Also if anyone doesn’t like them and wants to sell them let me know.
