I'm looking to buy my first ever pair of skis after crappy rentals for years, I already have boots. Unfortunately there's no place to demo moment skis anywhere near me. I kinda have to take a leap of faith, but I fw moment so I'd like to pop my cherry. I think I narrowed it down to DW 104 or Countach 104, what would you recommend? Also what length?

I asked reddit and people on r/skiing discord before coming here. They were all doomer posting saying that I will seriously injure myself with any moment ski that's not Wildcat 101. Like I had a patroller guy dm me and said that Countach 104 is too much as a daily driver even for him as a patroller, much less myself. He recommended I get some mid 80s k2/rossignol bs and avoid moment skis until I can confidently go down black runs.
WTF? I frigging love DW's, but triple camber is a preference thing.

We're not talking about a Commander here (the 102 is burly).

I think just about anybody could ski a WC101 in the appropriate length. No, it's not a noodle, but it's not a GS ski, either.

My first run on the DW104 left me in a "these are weird" haze. A few days later they were a cold, dead, hands, ski. I bought the 112 and like them in their element, but the 104 is my DD.

You guys are making me want to ski the CT and CT104.

The C102 is too much ski for most of my days, but I'm a light dude (6' 155lbs). I've had some epic days on them, but a lot of my days are spent leading or tailing Big Mountain kids and it's the wrong ski more than it's right. Tonight I flexed them next to a Enforcer 94 which feels like a noodle next to the C102. The DW feels like a noodle next to the Enforcer. The Commander means business.

You should put some Voyagers on the blades.

ETA, I'm almost positive I'm buying WC108 tours.

    Dude.... totally joking.

Curious, did anybody request a tour layup for their blades?

    Moment Skis Discussion

Hoping to get on some DW / WC / CT this winter as a DD to replace my Lhsa Pows. Striking out on finding any.

Would like to get on a Moment ski and see what all the hype is about without breaking the bank, but finding OG versions of these skis is rare. Love the old top sheet designs they used to have, so wild. The new GC top sheet is sick!

Thanks for the beta on the Commanders. Last year I skied mostly DW 104's (190) or Kastle MX 98's (178). I would love to cross breed those two and wonder if I could find that Frankenstein progeny in one of the Commanders...

Well shit. I guess I have to get bindings now. I was in the parking lot and there was one pair left and I panicked.

The 92 might get you there. I hear it's softer than the 102 and A BIT more playful. Otherwise, I'd try out the CT104.

I'm going to ski the Enforcer 94 back to back with the C102 and decide which to keep. I got the Enforcer for free, otherwise I would have tried the C92 and CT104 in that spot. There's a really good chance I'll just ski the DW104 90% of my days this year. Set it and forget it. I underestimated how versatile that ski would be. If I had bought it first I probably wouldn't have bought the C102. I was looking for a ski with some edge hold for those scraped off crunchy days and the DW104 does it.

If you want to charge with impunity the C102 is your huckleberry. It's a "put in your headphones and tune out" kind of ski. Be ready to get yelled at because you're hauling ass.

    Tour Moments!!

Ok, guys.... Let's talk tour skis:

I'm going to finally do a lighter setup. DW or WC108. Exclusively touring. Quiver of one. I know I like the DW. Never skied a WC, but I'm confident I would like it, too. I won't tour on shitfuck days. Primarily pow and corn, but there could be variable conditions mixed in. I have the big Renegades with Duke PT's for truly deep and motorized days.

    I'm leaning WC108 with the ATK 13's.

    Thoughts?

My daily/1 travel ski for last year is DW with cast. Prior to this I had DW and DWT with shifts for 2 ski quiver.

I demoed the WC108 tour with pin bindings a couple seasons ago and liked them a lot, so I picked up a pair of blems and atks during the end of season sales.

Just waiting on Scarpa Quattro Pros to come out in my size and will mount. This will be my new touring rig.

Best description I’ve seen of the differences is this:

I’ve had both 190 DWT and WCT 108, and concur with this. Both are great - Wildcat tour 108 feels a bit more playful, surfier, and somehow also stable, while the Deathwish is a bit edgier and better in firm conditions but also still good in pow. Float is similar. WCT 108 better in breakable.

I really liked these skis but generally prefer flatter tails in the BC for kick turns, anchors, tail-jamming (for securing your ski on steeps while putting on skis), etc., so really looking forward to a Moment tour layup with flatter tails.

The main variable is if you like or love the triple camber. I know you like that, so think you’d prefer the DWT. Especially with the big gun Rens in the stable for deep days and fast skiing.

Every time I think that I'm set, someone else brings good points to the mix. I do think I'd like both. I used to tour on Bent Chetler 120's and liked them on a lot of days. I picture the DW as a stouter version of that ski and the 108 waist as a pretty versatile quiver killer size. That said, I like the double personality of the DW.

    Thanks for the input!

Just to confuse matters more - I’ve owned both but generally preferred the DWT. I felt it was generally more playful and had better float so as a single quiver ski I’d lean that route as getting bogged down on a deep day is my number 1 pet peeve.

If you have a skinnier touring setup that’s good for firm/spring days then go with the standard Wildcat.

SnowMachine, I look forward to hearing your take on E94’s vs C102’s. I’m familiar with the Enforcer line (E93’s and E110’s are my early season/rock skis) so a direct comparison against the Commanders would be super helpful!

You should reach out to moment. They had pressed a few Countach 110 tours. Basically what you’re asking for with the semi flatter tail. No clue if they have any left but that could be your idea ski.

Possum, why the move from shift/cast to pin? Changing priorities or did you dislike the heavier bindings for some other reason?

I’m putting casts on my forthcoming ghost trains and am thinking of getting their second ski accessory to potentially tour-ify my WC108’s. And/or maybe a forthcoming CT104 purchase. Anyone tour on Countaches? (The full weight version.)

I’m not moving away, I love my DW with Cast, so much so that I castified my Ghost Trains also! Both are fantastic resort/side country/motorized/short tour builds.

And if I can only travel with one ski it’s the DW w/ Cast.

The WC108T with ATKs will be my pure touring/mountaineering set.
