Curious if anyone has time on both WC 101 and the DW104. Is the comparison there similar to the WC108 v DW just with a bit more firm snow bias because of the narrower waist widths. Or is there more nuance between the two than with their larger siblings. Looking for the more playful easy going option between the two of them

Haven’t skied the DW104, but have PBJs (WC101) DW 112 and CMd 98.

WC hooks up much better on firm low tide days than the DW. DW slarve more easily, but if you want to throw trenches in hard pack the WC wins. They also have more spunky pop and flex and are my park skis. Always behave like I want and expect them to. I think the generation I have are a bit stiffer, but according to factory guys they behave 98% similar to WC101 of today.

CMD 98 are like a charging GS ski that doesn’t have a speed limit and also can churn through anything you throw their way (crud, slush, day old - not ideal at this setup with deep days). I have had those up to mid 50s MPH in full GS turns on man made snow and old pack chalky and they hold more than most trust them to.

the WC101 is the best of the WC series in firm conditions but the DW104 is better overall in firm with more edge grip because of the triple camber.

the DW104 has a stiffer core with the poplar/beech vs the poplar/ash in the WC101. The DW104 feels more stout as such. You also get more float out of the DW104 because of the wider shovel vs the narrower WC101. You can get more usage conditions wise with the DW104.

the WC101 is slightly faster edge to edge over the DW104 with the narrower waist ,it’s also slightly more playful being a -5 mount vs the -6 DW104 but you’re splitting hairs in this area. Both are super easy to pivot and slarve whenever needed and both really playful fun skis. Both can and have been used in parks as well.

neither are just narrower versions of their larger siblings as they both have different dual radius side cuts compared to the larger versions. The DW104 is more progressively mounted than the 112 with -6 on the 104 -5 on the 112. Same with the WC 101 -5 108 -6.

I would give the playful easy edge to the WC101 over the DW104 but again you’re splitting hairs in this area as both are playful and easy going. Personally I prefer the DW104 for the wider range of use over the WC101. I also prefer triple camber.

I have the DW104 and 112 as well as the WC 108 and 190/118. I didn’t see where the WC101 fit my quiver personally as I felt the DW104 did everything the WC101 did but a few things more. I don’t do a lot of park so the slightly more park oriented nature of the WC101 didn’t appeal to me enough to add it to the quiver.

If you’ve never skied a DW series ski I’d recommend demoing one before pulling the trigger on a 104. Some people hate the triple camber. I personally love it and prefer it over normal rocker camber skis.

The WC 190/118 was my powder ski until I got the Ghost train 194/126 which is a full rocker with triple camber ski. It quickly became my go to for powder and as such the fatcat 118 hasn’t seen much use since.

If you already have a wide quiver I’d recommend the DW104 to add something new to your range. I’d go so far to recommend it as a 1 ski quiver as well if that’s all you can do, but that would only be after a demo ideally.

if you can’t demo them period I’d recommend the WC101 for the safety factory that it’s going to ski a lot like other typical rocker camber skis you’ve been on. Hope this helps.

Thanks this is very helpful. Very familiar with Triple Camber and I really love it. (I have the DWT and mainly do 100+ days of human powered skiing each year.) I'm trying to decide on a one ski quiver for resort time with the kids as they are starting to get more interested in skiing (since it is low speed groomers mostly I've just used the touring setup but we are advancing beyond wanting that) I guess the decision is between the DW104 and the DW, for expected usage the 104 makes more sense, though the 112 certainly doesn't suck when thing get firm. But it does sound like it'll serve me better than the WC101

if you’re skiing with the kids I assume the type of snow and runs you’d be skiing are going to lean more towards low tide and firm in which I’d take the 104 all day over my 112.

The 104 is also more maneuverable and agile at low speeds vs the 112. Easier to pivot and quicker edge to edge. While the 112 is good on firm the 104 really excels there.

I’m a bit biased as my 104 is one of my top 3 skis period but based off your use description I think the 104 fits your bill as well.

The DW104 is my daily driver, also. Park and freeride. It can be bent into crazy fun carves and it hangs tight in the shittiest of conditions. I've never tried it on a deep day, but regularly ski shin deep pow on it.

I ski the 112 on deeper days. I'm a huge fan of that ski, also. It edges better than a 112 should. Floats great and has a very relaxed character that you can lean into.

If I had to pick just one? Oh man..... 90% of days the 104 is great. I think I'd go that way. I'm glad I don't have to decide.

I need to get onto the WC family at some point.
