Would expect to see blades again. Also heard whispers of a new banana.

    Moment Skis Discussion

I mean, I can usually do that without touching it. "Jedi's this, and Jedi's that..." but the Deathwish Tour has got me absolutely stumped as I can't imagine how it feels and yet it has a cult following.

(Same with the Meridian and Meridian Tour-- That's another cult all-together.)
    Haha gaijin,

I’ve owned the Meridian 107 and 117. The 107 was really good. This makes me want to buy the Meridian (again) just so your brain would explode.

Whilst mowing the lawn today, I was thinking about skiing and I wondered why Moment does not have an always, +120 pow ski. Neither does ON3P. I know you can build a 124 from ON3P and Moment releases wider models in the reserve series, but you get my point.

Does gen pop just not buy +120 skis to make it worthwhile?

having the fat cat 118 is a pretty usable wide ski. There isn’t as much of a market for 120+. Though at the factory they’ll usually have a comi’s, bananas available.

I would argue that moment doesn’t have a pure pow ski in the everyday line up. The Kitty and the Banana seem much more like wide all mountain offerings.

I definitely think there is something about the 120+ number that messes with people heads. I find the Ghost Train to be more versatile than one would think even at 194/126 but I know many that will say “oh I’ll never need something over 120” even though they haven’t experienced or experimented with it.

At the resort where I ski, the fresh powder gets tracked out within 30 minutes, making skis over 120mm more of a liability than an advantage. I used to own the Wildcat, which was wide enough for my needs. However, since I no longer live in the mountains, true powder days have become rare for me, and my widest ski now is the Deathwish.

I believe that those lucky enough to catch a few deep powder days each season represent a small minority and their dedicated powder skis don’t get as much use as their daily drivers and aren’t replaced as often.

Meh. Disagree. Some of those really wide shapes absolutely rule in crud. My bibby is a far better deep crud/skied out pow ski than my Deathwish. And the protest is the best of them.

I am with you, I preferred my wildcat to the Deathwish to ski crud but the Deathwish is a better soft snow ski (including soft groomers). Now that I want Deathwish 104 i would like to swap my regular dw for a wildcat.

6+ inches of new snow in the resort and the 190 Bibby becomes king. Maybe even emperor. Any ski is fun in untracked snow but for the smorgasbord reality of a resort powder day involving untracked snow, soft chop, hard chop, buried moguls, groomers, big airs, and small airs there’s no better ski on the planet (not subjective at all)

Bibby is better soft snow ski in my opinion -- more taper = more natural in 3d snow for me. Bibby is my 6-10in day ski where I expect to ski mostly 3d snow. Deathwish is days less than that or expect more time on groomed. DW104 is my DD.

If i know it's going to be deep but upside down, hot pow or wind effected, protests rule.

Anywhere in the Tahoe area a pow day is a cleanup day 30 mins after lifts turn. A 110-115 ski is pretty versatile. I find myself grabbing that size ski on most pow days unless it's midweek or a true sleeper day. I really like the DW as a resort pow ski, but I haven't tried the Wildcat yet. It sounds like I need to. When it's truly soft I'm on Renegades. They float the deep and turn 6" untracked into feeling bottomless.

I'd like to ski the banana or train also, but Moment doesn't demo them. Sort of understandable since it's hard to line up the right conditions to ski them.

What's a true pow ski? Reverse, reverse? I don't disagree, just trying to add context. I think a ski like the Renegade is a pure pow ski, but I haven't ridden Spoons or a true RR ski.

Eastside, what do you ski when it's deep?

I guess my brain thinks more of a ski that float is the main objective. I think reverse reverse lends itself to the idea.

Skis I would think of as more of a pow option.
GT, Ren, HB122, Jeff124,Folsom Rapture, Protest.

    It's definitely a spectrum though.

South Tahoe skier here. Places do get tracked up obviously. Tangentially, a well played Kirkwood pow day can have one getting a colossal amount of fresh tracks. Maybe the Bananas superpower is once the fresh is gone, there is zero need to go grab a different pair which would add on to what Kim Jong said about it being a wide all mountain ski. I have never skied a big ass DPS Lotus wide-body, spoon thingbut I bet those are a blast in 5D snow

^That’s why i take the banana on trips out west with me and i can use it a surprising amount back east too. It’s not as fast and frictionless as Renegades in untracked snow but it’s weirdly good in firmer conditions and it absolutely destroys chopped pow. Renegades are a lot of work to ski when the resort gets tracked up.

I haven't skied the Banana. That may change this year. In that "tracked out pow day" spot I've been on the J Friend, Blade Optic 114, Enforcer 110, J Hotshot, Praxis Jedi Mind Sticks and a few others. I haven't totally nailed down that ski yet. Still looking. Maybe a Banana. Maybe a Black Ops 118. Both seem like solid Tahoe wide choices.

Skis I've owned on what I consider the pure pow spectrum are the Bent 120, Faction La Machine Max and the Renegade. Of those the Renegade has a pretty high giggle factor. I'd like to try the Protest, HL HB122, HL 132. Maybe some others. Ghost Train?

It's fun to try different skis. For now, The DW 104 is crazy fun and reliable for me. I can grab it almost any day and be happy. I haven't put enough soft days on the 112 to decide it's place in the quiver. I think it's a great option to travel with and know if I run into soft snow I'll be happy. It's pretty impressive on firm snow, too. I'm a triple camber convert.

You guys are all making it sound like I need to try the Banana.

Full agree about the Rens. They've beat me up enough in chop that I know to grab them when I know I'm on a pow mission. Usually before work laps. Smash as many as I can and bounce. I've also has a blast on them when snow is really blowing and moving around. Deep chop.... no Bueno.

my understanding was they didn’t press a lot of them. So they were selling more to locals and people who came to the factory. I’d love a countach tour and Dw 104 tour combo. Cover most of the bases for me.

We only have a handful of 188's pressed. Once we get through initial production we will probably complete the other sizes and release this as a reserve ski sometime this season. If anyone is in need of a 188 give us a call, shoot us an email or jump in live chat.
