    Best Couloir In Europe

Remember this beauty of a thread?

I haven't done much skiing in Europe, but I know that Chamonix and the Dolomites are chock full of beauties and I imagine there's many more all over the alps. I'd love to see what people think the best couloirs in Europe are.

Here are some offerings to start things off:

    Val Scura:

Help us all ogle some pretty lines. Show me what you've got!

Holzer is the best I've ever skied. But the crux on Joel is pretty sweet too.

Still haven't skied Scura. I'll change my avatar when I get it.

Somebody else's photo of the whole line:

Nice! Saw Joel was in the area as well. The Dolomites look really incredible for lines like this!

Did you have to rap in Holzer or was the crux filled in enough?

Had to rap. Less than ten feet but I'm not that brave.

When I skied it, the rap over the water/ice floe was much bigger than ten feet. Also out of sight of the anchor. Totally doable but a bit more serious with high wind white noise-ing communication. Even in soft conditions you’d want to be very confident of your ability to land it and navigate the left turn. It’s steep enough that you’d accelerate even if in control.

If you look for lift served couloir skiing, bareges in the French Pyrenees is the best
Counted over 80 couloirs in the resort, 600-2,000 ft, 40-50 degrees. Untracked for a week after a storm.

    La Voute in La Grave.
Should be on this list for an accessible classic.
Photo doesn't do justice to the scale.

I like this thread. More please.
a positive attitude will not solve all of your problems, but it may annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

La Voute (the vault) would be in my top five lift accessed runs in the Alps, couloir or no couloir. The Rama over the other side is a technically more difficult ski and has a greater sense of remoteness but the scale of Voute and the atmosphere created by the giant rock walls put it on another level.

It's at least 600 vertical feet.

I skied it a few times with no rap needed, and in incredible conditions. Soft, blown-in hero snow, you could absolutely cane it down there. Definitely one of the best runs of my life

Anybody got any to share from the Engelberg or Andermatt regions? Will be down that way at the end of this month.

See the first 7 seconds here for the upper couloirs under the Gemsstock:

These aren't that long, but they're steep and in full tram view.

Going E. off the top along the piste, staying on the ridge and dropping right (South) there's the Giraffe. Follow the piste, stay right traverse under the ridge, eventually up onto the ridge (big drop to your left) and follow until it it tilts right and ski down 200 feet until you can see a saddle through the rocks on your left. There's a million variations of this, but this is the main entrance. If one continues S instead of dropping into the main Giraffe, there's a bunch more dropping left, Hans Im Glugg is the name of one. Be wary of cliffs.

Then going under the upper tram from the start is the Gipfels or Gemsstock couloir. Take the first couple of switchbacks down the piste and just before it heads West into the Felsenthal direction, duck the rope to your right under the tramline and follow the ridge out, sidestepping or booting up a few feet. It will drop through the rocks to your left.

Contact Dan Loutrel and http://www.andermatt-guides.ch/EN/about.html and see if they're having one of their Funday guided groups. Danny knows the mountain and will know where the good snow is,

For Engelberg, think The Laub. Or go rage around the Jochpass/Jochstoch. If it's stable, either link up with locals or get a guide to do the Galtiberg.
