I have friends that make equal arguments for Stacy's, Sir Scott's, or Land of Magic being the most authentic in the area. I would contend that it's best to make friends with the daughter of a rancher.
    enjoyed that dinner!

Ready? Drill this into your head & fuck all those other recommends.

    Storm Castle.

    Storm Castle.

    Storm Castle.

Does it need to be an evening meal? Or could you get the best meal (disregarding the time of day) in town for the best price + some of the best service, all before heading up to Bridger for some badass skiing? I have not had a bad item on the menu, nor have I heard of anyone with a negative comment. I have taken a lot of visitors there & had it be the highlight of restaurants during their stay. Favorites are the po campo, monte cristo, & the chicken fried steak. You will not be disappointed.

Funny story on Stacyís. It had a pretty rough reputation back in the late 90ís. IE if you wanted to get in a fight, just walk through the door & eyeball the first guy you saw. Being the lover I am, i just skipped it. Then I had a buddy that hyped it up to a visiting friend so we stopped on the way down from big sky. Again a long time ago & Iím sure itís changed, but guess what we pulled into? Some big asshole totally throttling another guy in the parking lot. Turned around and left as the cops were pulling in. Havenít been back since.

    Open range is over priced.

Sir Scottís oasis and land of magic are a ways out of town. Manhattan & Logan respectively. 30 min. out & 30 min. back. After drinks. Keep it in mind.

Ate at the mint once since the new ownership. Not impressed & heard similar stories from others.

Copper whiskey bar is a pretty cool venue with meh, overpriced & over salted food.

Ale works has good beer. But you have to deal with trendy affluent Bozemanites to get it.

I like Daveís sushi. Get the gobbler.

Canít comment on saffron table, 14 north, or blackbird...havenít eaten there.

    In summary...Storm Castle ftw!

Says you. Carhartts, yoga pants, a Subaru, & a fat wallet are required, right?
Not that I have a problem with yoga pants.

    I really like this thread.

Little Star has the best breakfast in town. Again, the vibe is a bit much for the old timers. But on any given morning you will be able to find cooks from one of the places mentioned in this thread sitting at the bar eating their breakfast. I can't think of higher praise.

It's a shame the Stockyard isn't open any more.

Timely thread, will be out first of February. Wallet is skinny.

edit: due to post below, not going from Coast to Montana for sushi. Steak, burger, potato, salads, specific good vegetarian recommendations, pizza all in my wheelhouse.

Am I the only one who loves Main Street Over Easy for a classic breakfast? Better/faster/cheaper than Jam IMO.

Seconded. I was there Saturday and the beer was not that lightly colored.

I decided on Blackbird. It was pretty good, although our food came out suspiciously fast. Thanks for all the suggestions.

Introduced the kids to Jam! This morning. The verdict, it is now their favorite breakfast joint.
