Skiing with a Bluetooth speaker; Yay or Nay?

Yesterday, I'm standing in the quad line with a couple of buddies, kind of a busy day so the line's back to the end of the corral. There's a guy in the single line wearing some weird sunglasses (overcast day and snowing), a ski outfit begging to have the 70's call it back, and a small back pack with a Bluetooth speaker in one of the water bottle fittings. It's playing some gawd-awful mix of rap/hip-hop/thrash metal at a pretty high volume, much to the chagrin of many of us in line. I comment to my buddy that the guy needs earbuds and that I don't appreciate him sharing his shitty music with us.

We get to the front of the line with a twosome in front of us and him at the head of the single line. He doesn't go up with the twosome and instead wants to ride up with us. Oh, forgot to mention, he's on a mono-ski. Anyway, I tell him to jump in with the twosome and he's 'Nah, I'll just ride up with you guys'. I tell him again to jump in in front of us and he's, nah... So, I concede that he's probably going to go up with as he's telling me he'll turn down the music. We move up to the chair and he doesn't join us. We get on the chair and he loads by himself behind us. I hear him call me a dickhead when we take off. Maybe I was being a dickhead but, really? Do I have to listen to your shitty music all over the mountain?

As it turned out, he cranked it up for the ride up and actually had a couple of okay songs playing. I will also say that the speaker really had pretty decent sound. None-the-less, use earbuds so we don't have to 'enjoy' your tunes all over the mountain. And if the guy is on TGR and is reading this, I'm sorry you got to the point of calling me a dickhead. I probably deserved it and, it is the Christmas season and all so, my apologies. But in return, get some earbuds....please.

At least one of the places I ski has BANNED skiing with ear buds in because it contributes to collisions. Back when the lifts were powered by dinosaurs we skied with these. No shit, I really had one of these when I was like 12.. and Get off my lawn!

I hate that shit. Please, please give them a hard time.
I know ski resorts are somewhat removed from *Nature*, but that is more of what we are there for.

The only place that this whole backpack speaker + fartbag crap makes any sense is somewhere in a big City.
    You know, Oakland? Detroit? LA?
    These Aholes would shit themselves.

I've never understood why the people inclined to blast music always have the shittiest taste.

If you're gonna play it loud make sure it's good.

I pretty much hate people skiing with speakers. 33% because it’s usually shitty music, 33% because it’s a total “look at me” ploy and 33% because it’s fucking inconsiderate.

I’ll cut you some slack if you’re playing something good but it still annoys me.

Fucking hate it. It's worse when its on the single track though. Then even worse when backpacking/hiking.

Although the last one is pretty rare. Only have run into that a couple times in a few years.

I believe the standard TGR response is "knock off that pussy shit and put on some fucking Slayer" or variants thereof.
    Trust me, it's great.

nay; an aural plumage of the species idiot.
That said, I occasionally ski with someone who has one, who puts it on while we hike or skin, but never in the lift zone or while skiing.

    Gaper quote thread.

If he called me a dickhead he'd soon be on the ground wondering where his ski went.

Drives me nuts. Earbuds, fine. I have Bluetooth speakers in my helmet and will listen occasionally if I’m by myself, but not loud enough to cut me off from all surroundings. The guys with the speakers in the backpack or chest mounted can fuck right the fuck off.

Oh, Benny means people with speakers, not me.
"Put on some Slayer, pussy" followed by double is a good one.
If you think I haven't done shit like this, you'd be wrong.

Not all that keen on listening to some punk's music in the lift line, but prefer that to getting bashed in the head with a bluetooth speaker for whining about it. If it bothers me I'll just go find another lift probably on a bumped up run where the jibbers aren't going anywhere near..

Vince usually has some Dead going first tram at Snowbird. I rocked Snobbery and Decay last weekend first tram, I don’t think anyone got it.

Around the middle of the day yesterday I was loading the 6-pack behind a dude who was doing donuts on his mono-ski in the loading shed. I didn't notice blasting tunes. If there's any chance you had an impact: thank you! The donuts on others' tails seemed annoying enough.
