They are blaring some shitty music and talking really loud about their heart rates and training regimens. I guess some people are just more social than I am.

Skiing with a Bluetooth speaker; Yay or Nay?

I will often listen to music through my iPhone speakers with it in my front chest pocket, speakers pointed up. It’s turned down enough that I can barely hear it on the chair, and I can’t hear it while skiing, and they’re all songs I know well enough to fill in the gaps. It gets a soundtrack flowing in my head that helps tune out thoughts about work and other, non-skiing worthy worries. I usually just do this when hotlapping alone. If I share a chair with somebody and don’t turn it down, often about halfway up they’ll ask if that music they can barely hear is coming from me, at which point I’ll almost always turn it down unless they ask me to turn it up.

    AITA?
    focus.

Very big difference between listening to music, as Milton Waddams would say, "at a reathonable volume" for your own enjoyment, and those clowns who hang a speaker off the back of their pack and blast their shit on the beginner lifts so everyone around them gets to explain to their kids what the F word means. Absolute pet peeve RN.

I’ll take things that should get your pass suspended for $1000, Alex.

To drift a bit--I've been lucky to be very good at compartmentalizing. I rarely worried about work when I wasn't a t work--of course if there was someone I needed to check on when I was home I did it, but if I didn't have to think about work at home I didn't. Same thing applies to the trials and tribulations of daily life--like the assholes next door who are suing us (more about that later). It's a gift that I never consciously tried to develop and I don't know if a worrier can train themselves to compartmentalize. And there is one thing I do worry about--travel. I worry about canceled flights, etc etc etc.

Silence helps me relax. Someone once had me listen to calming music to relax and all it did was piss me off.

Whoever runs the WA State Parks insta account has a good sense of humor.

They put up a post that read something like “hey y’all! We put together a playlist for all you people out there that like to hike with a Bluetooth speaker clipped to your pack!”

When you clicked on the link, it took you to a WA State Parks Spotify playlist with zero songs on it.

I might start skiing with a Bluetooth speaker.

Then. Select music the opposite of what the douche on the chair is listening to.

Maybe just opera. All the time. Or gamelon.

The only time I listen to classical music is when I'm stopped at a light and the jerk next to me is blasting something.
I highly recommend Jimmy Rodgers--aka The Singing Brakeman, aka The Blue Yodeler--if you're looking for something offensive to most people. For me the upside is that I actually like it. I don't know if he's on Spotify though.

    This post made me laugh.

At least Chair 7 is warm and over quickly, somewhat making up for the higher frequency of 2nd time ever Snowboarders with the Tahoe Local pass blasting house music on Sundays.

Hiked into an alpine lake this summer with my wife and a dude was pumping some kind of trance music. He looked like he was on an outing he wanted to be a date but was friends zone. Hung over and ADD I think it’s some how soothing. We kept trying to go further away and then it would carry across the lake. I had a bit of a Serenity Now moment to keep from making an ass out of myself. Like we don’t have enough opportunities to be plugged in these days.
