other "boot glove" options?

So boot gloves work well for me, but can use some improvements



Dislikes
1) more coverage. They only cover the front/toe. I would like a full wrap, covering the heel too. Basically the whole lower clog of the boot.

2) Can't get at buckles. Mine are open anyways, but its a PITA for most people. I have seen people cut a small slit in the neoprene, but it can tear and also is a opening for snow/cold

3) not that durable. Skiing 50+ days a year with them on (the banff area is NOT warm) I usually trash a pair a year. The neoprene tears and the attachment below the boot wears out.

1) simple: no batteries to re-charge, no cables to break

2) affordable. heated socks/liners/footbeds are all $200+

3) Doesn't change the shape/fit/feel of your boot

neoprene is the stuff aqua seal and or contact cement was made to fix so you can repair boot gloves

boot gloves and heater packs work to about -20 ime

I hear ya' on the exposed areas....think some neoprene sources exist where one could cut some overlapping patches for the heel/achilles area, securing them to the orig masques by velcro patches sewn into both to fasten...and as Serius is taking its time, one could cut some patches for the cuffs. PITA but think it's the best way for me..in addition to pre-heating in the truck...and even easier if you make friends with that little old lady who has been in the sewing-biz for decades, enjoys it, and can do in a day. Not perfect but might do the trick till Serius gets serious(apologize about that one).

12/10 EDIT: The Japanese shop's version sure looks like an alternative...

This is the go to for getting more heat into your boots in the mountaineering space. They have ones for ski boots and all other applications as well. You can always cut holes in the front and rear for tech fittings.

These are good folks, for years I got my mold, kayak and other building supplies from them.

I used to also make my own spray skirts using sheet neoprene.

T-tossu is really warm and durable. Last winter I used at - 27c and it kept my feet warm. About 30 touring days and no problems.

That looks like an insulated version of the old Super Gaiters.

For heat loss through sole, they have aerogel footbeds, though those would take up extra space or might not be available in more customizable options. I have also seen reflective material on the base of the footbed.

I have also used the boot sole shims, which will give some extra insulation, under the liner. I did this in my older pack boots and it definitely made them warmer.

similar mountaineering super-gaiter or over boots --

I used to have a pair of the to-the-welt gaiters ( - always thought they had potential )

I removed the dynafit boot board and replaced it with a thin cork sheet. It made a huge difference.

I am a fan of boot gloves. I rarely use them, since I have my boots dialed in but they are nice on stupid cold days. Have you considered seeing boot fitter mntlion? :P

The other problem with the boot glove, is in deep snow when heli skiing.

I use them in ak, by mid day they are caked with snow, wet and worthless. Same thing in BC. Snow gets between the neoprene and the boot, essentially making them even colder.

The Tousso looks sweet, but how do you get to the buckles?

I might order the Japanese ones and see how they do.

i just orderd the ones from Japan, was only 15 to ship, 32 for the product. It looks great since it is fitted for size of the boot.
