    I once was hired by NASA to dig snowpits in North Park, so they could compare their satellite radar data to what was really there under the surface of the snow.

    I thought this place may provide me with some context, I didn't think I'd have my answer in the first response!

    They def do a bunch of stuff I've never bothered doing in a pit.

    And was their radar detection good? Imagine high quality radar data on every single slope / aspect / etc.
